can you use toyota iridium spark plugs on 1996 LX450?

hi,
I just ordered some spark plugs from dealer and ask if they had iridium plugs for my LX450 and they send me these plugs:

9091901176 PLUG, SPARK 0 $0.00 $1.78 $0.00
909190116883 Electrical Ignition system Spark plug From 1-94 From 1-94 6 $0.00 $6.82 $40.92


on their website they list both the regular copper plug number and the iridium plug number, but when you do a search on the toyota/lexus catalouge it only presents the copper plugs as the OEM replacement plugs:

they actually sent me the 9091901178 plugs listed at the bottom of the page.

Was wondering if it's ok to install these toyota brand (denso) iridium plugs on my FJ80 engine.

I know the heat ranges on denso copper plugs versus their iridium ones are slightly different.... didn't know if it would be ok to install the iridium ones.

I'm using the Denso Iridium IK16 Power plugs; very happy with them. When I replaced a previous set with ~100,000 miles on them they were still good and IME in much better shape than how copper plugs would look after that many miles. There is also a long(er) life Denso Iridium plug, SK16PR-F8 for the 1FZFE, don't have any experience with those, and then there are NGK Iridiums others have used.

I'm not the parts guru, wait for them to chime in, but that number (90919-01178) appears to cross reference with Denso plug # PK20R11 which is not the correct plug.

actually based on the partsbase.net toyota part number 909190116883 is equivalent to the following denso: PK16R11 and denso: SK16R11 and Hexen part number: ACT17HRDP

Wow, those are looking good for 100k.

Just removed my OEM plugs/wires with 145k on them and they were in horrible shape.

I used Denso IK16 for years, much better than the copper plugs.

X100 I used these on my 3-series for 150k with nitrous, and they still performed well. I loved those plugs. They were like 12 bucks a piece and worth every penny...

these toyota plugs 909190116883 are the ones for the supra... they cross-reference to the following denso part number: IK16 SK16R11 PK16R11 PK16TT K16R-U11 seems like the exactly same part numbers as the denso plugs for the 96 Landcruiser/LX450 except for the gap size.

The gap size on denso plugs for the landcruiser/LX450 are 0.8mm, while the gap size on the supra engine is 1.1mm. that seems to be the only difference in the part numbers, otherwise it's the exactly same part number. see below:

AFAIK the gaps on Iridium plugs are preset and different than stock copper plug gaps. Can you take back the dealer plugs and pick up a set of Denso IK16 plugs??

here's the difference between the recomended plugs by denso... seems like there are a couple models that are exact match for both engines.. however, some of the other ones have different gap sizes:

I am the technical manager at Autolite spark plugs. You can use iridium spark plugs in your lexus, our part number is XP3924. You can buy them at any auto parts store, they will be in stock.

I was told with these spark plugs they are so tough in some cases you may never need to replace them ever again that they may last the life of the car but I find that a but hard to beleive

the 16 in SK16 or IR16 is the heat range. 18 or 20 sparkplugs will be colder heat range, so

SK18 or SK20, IR18,IR20, PK20 will all be colder.

PK16TR-11 means platinum plug, TR twin electrode, -11 is the 1.1mm gap.

All that said, I use stock toyota/denso plugs in mine. But I don't put a lot of mileage on, maybe 5-7k miles a year. My plugs will last at least 5 years before I need to do them again.

I've had a 97 LX450 for a few years now and the userid "Brian" wasn't avail when I originally signed up here years ago.

My other car is a highly modified corolla. The truck is my dd and 4wheeler because my wife doesn't like drifting around in the corolla, but doesn't mind being seen in the Lexus lol.
