Hey all, 2013 LX trying to see if there’s a way to lock the car with no one inside. My Infiniti I can lock it with the key fob out side the car. Trying to figure out a safe way to warm the truck in the am and be able to lock it. If I press lock on the fob from the outside nothing happens, any setting anywhere that can change this? Thanks
Can you lock these trucks without having the key inside?

With my 2011 LC I can leave it running and use the key from the FOB in the door to lock it up.

Interesting. Yea I found it weird the lock on the fob doesn’t do anything.
You can lock it with the key. Pull it out of the fob and lock the door and it will stay running.
The answer to your question is: yes, use the metal fob in the keyhole on the drivers door and you can lock the car whether its running or not. You can even lock the fob in the car. I do it all the time with mine to go surfing with the metal key tucked into my wetsuit.

Illegal if you get caught.
Locking with the manual key does not work on my 2013 if the engine is running. You put it in the lock and turn either way, but nothing happens. Tried while holding the fob and while moving the fob out of range. Manual key works fine to lock/unlock when the engine is not running so I don’t think it is an issue with the lock. I looked around with Techstream to see if this can be changed, but didn’t find anything except the all window roll down 
LOL .. No it's not .. remote start is very common.

Wow. I just googled Texas laws and idling is illegal!
Who knew? (Aside from our local hall-monitor).
Apparently most states, but certainly not all, have laws making idling illegal. (Though I do wonder how often they are enforced.)
Interestingly, I think there is a cut-out in Texas laws that allow for idling if one has a remote starter. This cut-out seems like some lobbyist got a gift because it doesn’t make sense, but maybe I’m reading it wrong.
You guys and gals can try to decipher the legalese in the Texas law:
Sec. 545.404. UNATTENDED MOTOR VEHICLE. (a) Except as provided by Subsection (b), an operator may not leave a vehicle unattended without:
(1) stopping the engine;
(2) locking the ignition;
(3) removing the key from the ignition;
(4) setting the parking brake effectively; and
(5) if standing on a grade, turning the front wheels to the curb or side of the highway.
(b) The requirements of Subsections (a)(1), (2), and (3) do not apply to an operator who starts the engine of a vehicle by using a remote starter or other similar device that:
(1) remotely starts the vehicle's engine without placing the key in the ignition; and
(2) requires the key to be placed in the ignition or physically present in the vehicle before the vehicle can be operated.

I'll continue to operate on the "if or when caught" timeline and deal with consequences then, like most things.
What they are saying is not entirely correct.
It's against the Law to leave your vehicle running "WITH THE KEYS IN IT" so people steal it can drive off. Likely not covered under your insurance as they usually have a clause against this.
There is no crime if's it running on remote start as the moment you open the door or hit the brake peddle the vehicle turns off.

On a semi related question, if/when using the remote start, has anyone else thought about it meaning the starter is used twice as much? Or whatever the math on it is, being that it turns off then ya restart once in. Am I replacing that sooner vs never using it, just starting and being done? On my altima, it doesn't turn off. Just an observation.
