Can you comfortable fit in a 45 pickup and be over 6' ???

Slightly higher seats helped.

I'm not a 6 footer but some of my friends are and since I changed seats, my rig is way more comfortable for everyone. One of the most uncomfortable things was the bending of the legs. I haven't moved the pedals yet but the seat I installed put me up about 3 inches more. The seat is a third row bench out of a high end Astro\Safari mini van. I had to fab up two supports for the driver's side and a couple small brackets. I used the original OEM seat frames all the way across. Both the driver and the passenger's seats have left and right folding arm rests ( another huge comfort gain ). My buddy who is 6'2" fits in fine but I wouldn't want to hit some nasty bump. I look forward now to driving it more than before. If your not an overly thick fella this might work for ya. Cool looking rig.

Hmmm...I was in Post Traumatic Stress disorder when that pic was taken....;) I was venerable! And had about 48 layers of clothing on due to the balmy 20 below weather ;) but yes that was tight!!!

anyways, I digress...I'll need to get down to the truck and try it out again. I would really like to try it with the top off to see how much more room it gains me.

Ben just sit in it and open the door. Taking the top off doesn't give you much room so to speak. Its the door...

I may be headed down that way this weekend so I'll see if I can stop by and test her out.

thanks!

I think the reason people think that taking the top off makes a difference is because you can lean most aftermarket bucket seats back farther when they are not running into the cab.

My lwb came with low back buckets in it, and even they went back past the cab a little bit with the top off. One of the guys that used to work at MAF, I think his name was Chris, put some high back buckets in his 45 that IIRC went back almost 4" beyond the cab with the top off.

Buy the truck. Ditch the motor.

:)

Heck i am just waiting to sit in mine and drive it.

Hopefully this week though, just waiting on some parts from a few places.

And i'm only 5 '9".

So not much help sorry.

And like everyone else said, get the truck.

what mark said.. Hate to say it but that old H motor is really an old school diesel, not worth much except for around town and slow driving duties.. But other than that pretty cool otherwise. I would definetely get it if you can! I wish I could afford picking up a FJ45. My girlfriend of 5 years (possible wife someday I suppose :) ) says she wants me to build her a FJ45 some day.. I am down with that :)

PS I am 6'5 and semi-skinny. Think 6.5 is too much? I found some neat Celica seats that we put in a '81 old school style pickup truck. Nice bucket seats but super skinny back, that was nice..

I have a swb that was owned by a guy in CO that was 6'4". He had the stock seat customized (took almost all the padding out) and he said he fit on very easily. He liked the seat so much he want to buy them back. I am 6' and thought the seats were too far back!

I have seen mini truck bench type with the semi bucket backs in there, made for a simple yet functional look and the thin back I believe allowed more adjustment back. putting them up a little higher will give less knee in the chest affect and then a smaller steering wheel and power steering and your set. Same truck had a 60 series column with tilt. 'Twas sweet.

I'm 6'5" and I had an '82 FJ45 with stock seats for about 5 years. While it wasn't the most comfortable truck in the world I never saw "fitting in" as a problem. Did lots of long trips and even slept in the cab once or twice!

You'll be fine.

I'll go back to the 40 series forum now:)

Cool, I appreciate the help guys. Might make a trip that way this week depending on work.

The engine would have to wait to be changed...does it get decent mileage being a diesel?

I don't have a diesel in my 45 but I wheel with them all the time. 3B, 2H, 13BT, they all seem to get almost twice the milege I get. When we wheel for a day I use almost a tank full and most od the diesels are barely at half on the fuel gauge. The guys often go for the weekend without refueling and occassionaly will hit the trail with less than a half full tank. I figure somewhere between 25 and 30 mile per imperial gallon. That's between 20 and 30 per USG. And the 2H is not that weak a motor. You will need to downshift on long hills for sure but on flat ground with no headwind you can cruise at 60-65 no problem. The diesel boys may pipe up with more accurate fugures.
