Just wondering how many of you are over 6' tall and can somewhat comfortably fit in an 45 truck? I understand with the top off there is more room.

just checking....it may be time to pickup the one I have been hording...:D

Next time you are in Fort Collins, stop by and I'll let you sit in mine.

Cool, I'll have to check that out...I'm sure it will be tight for any extended driving, but for just around town duties...I can't be the coolness factor...

yes in a 45 long bed but NOT a shortbed , I am just at 6ft and am comfy.

changing the steering colume to a smaller wheel and PS will help ALOT

Fjben,

I'm 6'4" and struggled with being psuedo comfortable in the LWB with the top and doors on. Problem is the size of the steering wheel in relation to the driverside door which is multiplied by the pedal height. The pedals are high so you have to really lift your leg that gets wedged between the steering wheel and the door.

all that being said..I took the top and doors off 16 months ago and have been comfortable ever since..

I also bent the gas peddle to the right to help with the knee angle also.

buy the 45 already!!!

Let me know when...

I had it over to one of the HT4x4 meetings. Don't know if I'll make the next one with the 45.

Thanks for your input everyone. Sometimes it sucks being a tall bastard...I'm pretty skinny tho. With the top off that sounds somewhat manageable.

This is a certain cruiser I asked Land Pimp about years ago. It's an old HJ45 oil burner thats still there! I have been really thinking about this one and wondering whether I'd regret getting it someday or not. So I'm thinking about making the more.

Mike, I think I missed that meeting you took it too!

damn....I remember that 45......that was a while ago.

I am a fat bastard........:D

I also bent the gas pedal, it did help

I am not 6 feet tall, but I've noticed this pedal height problem too. If you have them the stock 9.5 inches, especially the clutch pedal, it can be a real problem. But, you can easily and safely adjust the pedal height downward, at least an inch or more. That might be worth it.

You big tease...how do you do it? photos?

I'm 6' something and I was very comfortable in Algazy's 45. He let me drive it through Ft Collins when he was here. Then again.....here is a pic of Ben driving my 40 :D

Hmmm...I was in Post Traumatic Stress disorder when that pic was taken....;) I was venerable! And had about 48 layers of clothing on due to the balmy 20 below weather ;) but yes that was tight!!!

anyways, I digress...I'll need to get down to the truck and try it out again. I would really like to try it with the top off to see how much more room it gains me.

I am about 6" and 180lbs. I too often used to worry that all day in the cockpit would sieze my joints. I recently did a 4 hour highway trip with no discomfort at all. The longest trip was 8 hours several years ago. Again, no problems. I do stop every couple of hours for gas or a coffee. On long straight stretches I also use the throttle to keep my speed while I stretch my gas foot. While I don't recommend this form of "cruise control" for everyone it does relieve the right leg occassionaly. 16 hours on the trail is no problem because you are in and out all the time. I will be adding power steering soon and may try the smaller steering wheel.

You screw out the pedal stop bolt on the clutch pedal, or the brake switch on the brake pedal. Then you adjust the clutch slave push rod length, or the brake cylinders respectively. 14 and 17 mm wrenches, IIRC. You sure you need pics? :D

Here's the lowdown on the rig...trying to get a value on it...I know it's "worth" to me whatever I will pay ;) But it's a 74 HJ45, imported from South Africa in 1977. Heater installed in place of A/C, H motor, H41, cool camo paint ;), pretty minimal rust, neat-o smoke stack exhaust ;)...3K? 5k? 7K? runs but puts a little bluish smoke out on idle...could be old diesel? or just not really being run or alititude?

anymore thoughts?

Nice find, Ben.
I would have no problem fitting in it, let me know if you pass on it , because i want it. I might have to sell one of the kids for it.
Hmmm.

Get it, if you find it's too tight, you'll have no problem selling it.

I'm 6' even, 210 pounds, stock steering wheel, with power steering and don't think it's too uncomfortable. I'm not certain there is more room with the top on vs. top off. I think it's percieved you have more room just 'cause you can see the sky. with the doors off, you can rest your left foot outside on the running board and that helps. I've done one extended road trip (12-hours) and would do another.

I am 5'11" and 200 something and fit ok with stock seat and wheel.
A friend of mine fabbed a bracket and uses newer 40 seats plus a newer column. Gives a little bit more room, and a lot more comfort. Theres always ways to eek out a few more centimeters of room!

I'd be interested in how your friend fabbed a bracket for the newer seats. I have a 78 FJ45 and I'd like to put some 78 FJ40 seats in it, but I just don't have enough imagination to figure it out.

No problem, I'll post a few pics. I'm hoping to convince him to make another for me!
