Hey guys,

My mate has a fj62 and i have a 60, both Australia spec 4bys, he is always telling me that his front diff is locked and his rear diff is LSD, his 4by is stock but he is sure this is what it came with from new. He has no air lockers or cable lockers but both front tyres spin (apparently) when bogged. Mine dont???

Any info on what these 4bys came out with would be great.

Cheers in advance for any help!

Hmmm. I don't know jack about OE Aussie Cruisers but if you want to know what's in the front end, try this: jack up the front axle so both tyres are off the ground. Lock the hubs (if you can unlock them), put the truck in 4WD and in gear (engine off) try to turn one of the front wheels by hand. If the wheel won't turn more than a quarter rev or so, the front diff is locked. If it turns and the other wheel turns the opposite direction, its definitely unlocked open diff. If it turns and the other wheel doesn't do anything, then its broken :) I don't this works with LSDs. As for him being able to spray mud with both front tires, if both tires have a similar load on them, both will turn. Its when one side has way less load/traction than the other - one side spins, other side stops.

as stock the options in AUS were, rear limited slip and open front. Or front and rear cable lockers.

no option for front locker and rear limited slip.

who knows what some previous owner installed in the front.

It is so funny (read sad) that here in the US liability concernes would NEVER (read never) allow any type of FRONT locker as an option. I think it's amazing that the jeep rubicon came with one. But there are so many do's and dont's to that system to almost make it usleess.
