Curious as the why some 250s have a drive monitor and some don’t.

Initially I thought you only got the “self driving” if there was a drive monitor, but it seems all the variants get that.

If so, what would be the reason some have the sensor above the steering wheel, in front the digital cluster, and some don’t?

Thanks

do you have the advanced traffic jam assist part of the $4.5k premium pack?

debating if I want to sell my 2018 200. Still not sold on the 250, but still doing some research…

Unless the dealer notes are wrong, I’ve seen some that are fully loaded and they will have the driver monitor, then some will not.

The driver monitor is part of the Premium Package that is available on the Land Cruiser trim. The premium package is not available on the 1958 trim.
The driver monitor is also not on the First Edition trim, IIRC.
(All assuming US versions of the above)

So every first edition I’ve seen has the drive monitor. The premium package Land Cruiser trims have them 50% of the time. Making me think the dealer is labeling the truck as premium package when it’s not.

But regarding the comment above. Is it only used for traffic jam assist then?

You’re correct that the driver monitor is part of the premium package. The traffic jam assist is also part of the premium package. There might be other ‘uses’ or aspects of the driver monitor though.

I have a LC LC without the premium package. No driver monitor and no traffic jam assist. However, when I use the lane keep assist, along with adaptive cruise, for self-driving-ish it makes me keep a hand on the wheel. I think maybe with the driver monitor, you don’t have to keep a hand on the wheel if it knows you’re paying attention.

My premium package has it. All premiums and FE should have it based on Toyota website. Explanation of system below. I’ve got all the nanny’s turned off so can’t comment on how effective the system is. Wife’s Subaru has similar but camera is above infotainment.

Ask to see a vspec for each vehicle, it will be listed. Fully loaded equates to alot of miscommunication.

Side note, The traffic jam assist needs multiple attention monitoring nannies (steering weight sensor and driver monitor to name a few) for the purposes of future development (training there future level 3 systems) and safe operation of the current aisin derived traffic jam assist system. No traffic jam assist no monitor.
