Can I swap my 93's remote entry into my 97?

Now that we have two 80s, my wife will be driving the 97. The 97 does not have the Toyota security and remote unlock system, but the 93 does. There is a good size box under the driver's seat that I've always know was the security system on my 93.

Anyone know if I can simply plug and play this box into the 97 and then use the 93 remotes with it? I'd love it to be that simple.

If not, anyone have a feel for how hard it would be to swap?

Thanks,

DougM

Nope.

Rats. Guesstimate on parts cost from you and complexity to install?

The kit is long, long discontinued.

Installation was about 2 hours or so.

Might I suggest you try one of the several fellas parting out 80s?
Installation might be a bear w/o instructions though.

Hmm. Might be better off having a local auto electric shop install a security/remote system on it, as much as I hate anything non-OEM on my vehicles. (shivering at the thought...)

If you do go to the dark side with the security, you might as well get the package that has the remote start. :)

Good call. Hopefully by now they've got the bugs worked out on those. I know people who had them installed in the early days and they were a nightmare. Waking up at 3 am smelling fumes and realizing the car had started itself, etc.

Doug,

If you are able to source an RS3000 system there is an installation manual on my web site. There is also a troubleshooting manual.

Doug,

Try www.partsexpress.com for a keylesse entry remote start, I think I paid $50 or so for mine with two keyfobs. For wiring details try www.12volt.com

If the 3000 is the factory setup, then I like it as it will likely be plug and play. All I want is remote unlock, so sounds good, Beo.

OTOH, $50 is mighty reasonable - I'll check it out. Thanks, guys!

Doug, I had issues with mine as far as range went and had to investigate the problem. Turned out that the installing tech didn't follow the directions and short cut the install. From what I saw it's not a plug and play install more of a splice and dice one.

Agreed. After you read the install manual you will see that the RS3000 alarm is very invasive.

Hmmm, for the electrically impaired "invasive" conjurs up horrible images of coming back to a trail head to find the '97 with a dead battery.....

I'll check out the site, then (slinking off..).
