I've done a few searches here... anyone know what the 2F camshaft nut size is? I measured it somewhat to 1 3/4" then went down to tool town. $30 for a socket from china? Nah...

Where do you guys find cheap sockets for the cam shaft and the 54mm?

The axle nut socket you can get from Toyota SPX. From what I remember it wasn't that expensive and it is good quality. The one I got from SOR wasn't as nice...The part number is 09607-60020

1st post camshaft, 2nd crankshaft and then 3rd axle

I don't believe there is a bolt associated with the Camshaft.

If there is it is no where near 1-3/4". The nut that is roughly 1-3/4" is the crankshaft and it is as Jim posted a 46 mm or 1-13/16".

The third post is answering his last question on where to find the 54 mm socket which is for the axles.

If you can find a used (ebay) Snap-on IMM460 (46mm impact 6pt. Shallow) around 35$ .... has 1/2 drive which makes it much easier to get into the tight space between the crank pulley and radiator... All others will have a 3/4 drive and unless you have a 3/4 drive ratchet, breaker bar, Impact gun - or the like, you'll have to use some adapters ..

Then you will ask how in the hell do I get the nut off? After you figure out the rotation of the engine you will figure where to jam the bar at so when you just crank..not start the engine..... the nut will come out on its own.:p

Are you saying its reverse threaded?

thanks for all the advice. The engine is out. I'll look for this snap on tool as you said, I made an offer the other day on that very tool but got rejected.... oh well... Not in a rush.

Thanks again!

PS. You should see the hole in this block.. went through the block and pierced the oil pan too... in 2 spots... crazy.

See my avatar for the one of the 3 rods that ejected from a 2F. (yes, 3 at once @ 75MPH)

You def got me beat! This was only 1.... I'll try to get a picture up of it.

harbor freight has a 3/4 inch drive socket set with a 46mm socket and lots of other pieces. only $50.

What about this one?

SNAP-ON 12 PT 1 13/16 SOCKET 3/4" DRIVE 46MM GLDH 582 - eBay (item 360087429430 end time Jan-07-09 16:46:09 PST)

Seems like it would work.

That one is fine, as long as you don't mind the 3/4" drive. If the motor is out of the truck it won't matter anyway.

Good price on the socket too, but shipping is a little high.

Good luck. :)

The crank nut is a rough casting, not real precise, especially on earlier engines. Also, I've seen several crank nuts that have been removed/installed w/ a BFH and punch. Therefore a 6 pt socket is recommended.

Thanks all... Thanks Bull for letting me borrow your socket. lot easier when its on the frame than off.
