one other thing: if you do decide to delete this whole thread, you may want to print a copy first so you can show the powers that be how the discovery of mx's interactions with the seller too place and that it was indeed serendipitous...
as I said above, I don't think it's smart to put out your legal strategy out here for the Seller to see. Plus, mentioning people by name on the Internet in this sort of context is not a good idea either unless you've figured out exactly the pros and cons.
I contacted the dealership that handled the transaction but they wouldn't give any information. I'll give the DMV a call and see if that provides any further information.

Cutter, are you saying that you did the paperwork through a dealership?
Please explain exactly how this deal went down. If I understand you correctly, this guy was posing as a private seller, wasn't he? But now you're saying there was a dealership involved in the transaction? Please explain.
If your seller was a true, bonafide private seller, there should have been absolutely no involvement of any dealership, UNLESS money was still owed to the dealership and the lien was still held by them. Or unless they do things VERY differently in Georgia, which I doubt. He should have just handed you a title, since you were going back to SC with it to register it there.
