Well the title says it all. New to Land Cruisers but have wanted one for a long while. I have me eye on a 2000 with 281k miles. From the pictures it looks pretty well kept for a vehicle of that age and mileage but was listed that it will need new tires as well as the AC blower motor resistor and a possible brake service and transmission flush. I will look at the service records but the guy said that other than oil/filter every 4k he has only done an O2 sensor and a cv boot a few years back. Other than the timing belt and water pump what are some areas to check for this mileage (I have read many posts including the slee website but I always like to double check). The asking price is $4,400 and would likely offer between $3-3,500 which I think is fair considering the costs of even just the tires. Am I crazy for buying an LC with this many miles or should I just be extra careful with my inspection? If possible I plan on getting a pre-buy inspection but my schedule is crazy right now so there is a chance that will have to get skipped. I feel like for $3,500 it's worth the chance, thoughts?

Confirmation that the TB, water pump, and Tstat have been replaced would be my #1. Then check for rust. Heater T's shouldn't look like burnt toast....although I would change them if you do buy it. Radiator condition?

Does it need a transmission flush because of a symptom, or just because it's past due. There are rare but documented failures of 2000 LC transmissions so if there are symptoms now, buyer beware. I like buying vehicles that need tires because then I can get just what I want without feeling bad about tossing the old tires! If you're thinking of skipping a pre-inspection before you purchase a 281,000 mile vehicle, good luck!

Don't buy rust or wrecks. Do a compression check. Don't buy unless you can turn a wrench, unless very clean with everything done.
