CarFax the rig for its' history, and bring $3k in cash. Waive it in his face, let him know that the front-end work alone will cost $1200, and that there is other "baselining" service which needs to be done for at least another $1,000, a new bumper-ette, etc. It is not a 100% perfect rig and does needs "some work". If he says no to your offer, then move on. Plenty of other fish in the sea. Without an impeccable service record in-hand showing recent work on the rig for these items (and looking at the shots, it has been quite SOME TIME since it was last serviced), you have some leverage.

Make sure the OD is hooked up at the cluster or if it's just working at all. SPECTRE is right about the miles compared to the condition of the body. I bought mines from the first owner for $3500. The only thing that was broken was the front windshield was cracked. The motor was clean as well as the interior. He never took it offroading. I lucked out. Here are some pictures of how i brought it home and you can compare to your truck your trying to buy. My truck is a 91 with 150K when i brought it home. I would offer him no more than $2500 because of all the maintenance you have to do. good luck.

I am currently venturing into the world of toyotas after years of being a land rover guy. I need a truck i can rely on and after some research if decided the 91-92 fj80 with the 3fe is the way to go. So i went to look at a truck today and i noticed a few things i was hoping you could help me with.

Where in NY is this truck located...This will help me tell you whether to run or run fast....

Double check the miles as others have said. Consider the imeadiate repairs.. thats alot of oil on the axles.....

I would pass on this one....

Slight hijack.. The front backing plates have air vents??? Never knew that....

The truck is on long island. I looked into it and got the carfax.. the car looks like it was off the raod from 2001 to 2010. The carfax says there was an inspection on 9/24/01 with a milage of 103,000 and an accident on 9/25/01. THe next report after that is when the current owner registered it in 7/2010. The current owner bought it from the original owner who mentioned the truck sat in his garage for a number of years (he was a rich guy and the property care taker mentioned the car has been in the garage for 7+ years).

I drove the truck and it drives like a charm. The body and under the truck were in good shape. The interior is alittle messed up and the birfs make me nervous.

I am going to offer $2k i think and if he doesnt take it ill continue my serach.

Being that its been sitting for a long time, you have to be concerned with all seals being very dry. that prolly why its leaking so much...

I use to live in Baldwin/Hempstead area...

Good luck

I've got a '92 with 202,000 on it. Runs and drives great, everything works. I replaced my front window seals and that fixed the slow windows. They get sticky with age. They are about $70 each and takes 10 min to swap out. I did it without removing the door panels.

I'd go for it. Once you get all the minor maintenance issues out of the way it's almost guaranteed to get you to 400k miles and beyond.
