Selling my built 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser with 225,000 miles on it. Price reduced to $11,000 OBO. Reasonable offers considered. Timing belt done at 186k and heater T hose done. Rig is located in Los Angeles, CA. Oregon title in hand. I have a folder an inch thick with years of records. I added up all the custom parts on the car and it easily climbed over $10,000 at new retail pricing (and that doesn’t count labor to put it all on). Car was in a low speed accident with a stationary vehicle. See details below. If you have any questions don't hesitate to get in touch with me. I am not interested in parting the car out at this time. Oregon tags good until July 2017. Passed smog in California just the other day so I have the certificate in hand.

Since purchasing the Cruiser I had the following done (much of it in the first month):
Had the driver’s side front axle and spindle replaced (OEM)
Redid both front wheel bearings
Replaced and greased both front CV joint/boots
Replaced all four front upper and lower ball joints
Replaced front sway bar bushings
Put in new steering rack bushings (may still need new rack)
Alignment
Replaced the sunroof panel (new OEM)
Had an oil and filter change with Mobil 1 full synthetic high mileage

The damage story is I rear ended a full size truck with a full load (in each vehicle) at like 10 mph. Got faked out at a right turn on red, guy went so I look to see if it’s clear and start getting on it only to look back and see the truck dead stopped again. Loaded to the brim I just couldn’t get slowed back down enough in the short distance I had. I had to unbolt the passenger side wheel well part of the bumper so the tire wouldn't rub on it, but I have it in hand with all the accessories. The insurance adjuster didn’t remove the bumper but gave me an initial estimate of around $1700 to fix it at their shop and get me on the road. Went to my own body shop and the rig was declared a total loss, but based on what everyone else has said in person and on this forum, the damage isn't that bad. Bumper has not been removed to inspect the frame.


I was already planning on selling before the fender bender, but now it’s a good opportunity for someone else at a reduced price. If you’re not picky just straighten out the off road bumper and hammer the fender back where it’s supposed to be and you’re all set. If you do want to fix it, it will probably need a passenger side fender repair or replacement, front bumper brackets and adjustment, a hood realignment and either removal or replacement of the factory bug deflector piece. I’m not sure what else if anything. I saw some moisture in the passenger side DEPO headlight after a car wash so it may be cracked somewhere underneath (looks fine from the outside). I still have OEM headlights in boxes as well and will include them if asked. Car has some door dings and I'd say overall is in great shape for the age and miles. Could use some exterior freshening up like some new paint or plastidip of the driver's side trim door trim piece and some paint on the roof. It looks gorgeous after a good washing. To my eye, it was one of the best looking 100 Series up for sale here, ExPo, or anywhere else when I was in the market.

So when the new owner transfers paperwork it will become 'salvage' title correct?

It can't go south on a salvaged title... or, at least it can't stay there.

What do you mean it "can't go south"?
Yes it looks like when being retitled it will come up branded. Apologies for not including this initially as I wanted to confirm that first (first time going through this). The Oregon tags are good through July 2017.

I had an alignment done in May of this year.

Price drop now $11,000. I was told by a one stop registration shop that if I had a clean title in my hand (which I do) I could transfer it to California clean and clear regardless of what appears on a Carfax, but my Oregon tags are good until July.
 
It depends on what the Insurance Company does, if it was insured and you took pay out then bought it back then it will be on salvage which will have an effect on anyone insuring it again and needing an inspection to get it back on the road.

Seems strange a bend on a full chassis vehicle was enough to write it off so maybe there is more to see under there or the assessor was an idiot.
 
The damage isn't too bad. The estimate from the body shop was worst case scenario which I think was enough for the adjuster to write it off, especially given their ridiculously low idea of the value of the vehicle at the time.
 
The real question is did the Insurance Company pay it out and now you are trying to sell it off after getting it back ? If so when it transfers over yes it will be salvage title and have to be inspected in CA before getting a transfer and then they will have to deal with any new insurance issues as many companies will not touch salvage for comp.
