I had removed my BB skids to do some other work and reinstalled them today. The skids go on pretty easy, especially the second and third time you do it. The bolt that attaches the transfer skid to the fuel tank skid is a real PITA though. I have tried all kinds of things but today I attached a wire twist tie to the bolts and threaded it through the hole from behind the heat shield on the gas tank skid and pulled it through the hole. Worked great. Pics are not so good but can get the idea.

Looking at the last pic, I forgot the other tip which is turn the truck upside down to work on it… 😜

Thanks for sharing. Just finished my install and initially decided to leave it off. I may give it a go using your method.

I will have to try that. I just left that bolt off because I could not get my ham hands in there for that bolt.

I also just skipped that bolt, but may try this approach if the temps in Phoenix ever get back below kiln levels. Thanks for the tip.

Great time to take up pottery tho… ;)

I had my daughter come out to the car and stick the bolt in the hole. Heck, if you don't have any kids, find one (ask their parents first, prove you're not a molester) pay the kid $5 to knock it out.

BUT, this twist tie is a fantastic idea that I am sure would work. I need to pull mine off anyways (i have White Knuckle Sliders) to trim the skids around the mounting points of the white knuckles.

I have a couple different sizes of something like this that came with the a skid plate I bought for a previous vehicle.

After the job was done I kept them - have used each a handful of times. You can make them smaller or larger by twisting with needle nose pliers.
Great idea! I was thinking of those things when I read this tip, but I couldn't remember where I had used them. Must've been a bumper or plow install at one point.
