Try doing a search on the term "damage multiplier". This should give you some good info on brush guards.

Check out www.sleeoffroad.com there are other vendors, but Slee seems to be the most honest and reputable. You will find ARB, TJM and Slee makes their own as well, each has its own positive points depending on how its going to be used.

Welcome to the party! :) Pretty much everyone on this board will recommend ARB or Slee replacement bullbars / bumpers. Keep in mind that the standard Manik or Westin "brush guards" you see out there are actually "damage multipliers" in that they will inflict additional damage on your vehicle upon impact. If you are really looking for additional protection and a functional addition to your vehicle, look at the ARB and Slee bumpers. The Manik-style "brush guards" out there are useless, poser items marketed as fashion accessories for soccer moms.

If you do want a damage multiplyer, i'll sell you mine cheap!

Well they might actually help in a high speed crash.

Help crush in the hood, fenders, and headlights...

In Australia they are known as 'roo bars and bull bars, and they come in all varieties. Of course there are ARB and TJM and many, many less expensive fabricators as well as a guy in every town who will weld some bars together to your specifications. You even see little sedans with bars. Some are engineered strong enough to push another truck (I think that is where "bull" bars got their name?) while some are merely strong enough so that a collision with a kangaroo 100 miles from town doesn't mean a 100 mile walk. I.e., the bars absorb the impact that otherwise would have been taken by radiator, headlights etc.

A friend visiting from the states last year hit a kangaroo doing about 45 kph in a rented Getz (whatever that is) and did $A600 damage to the front end that probably would have been absorbed by el cheapo 'roo bars. Even if the bars cost the same as the damage, the point is they can save the front end to fight another day.

Now, in Australian cities 'roo bars and bull bars are not only poked fun of as damage multipliers to their host cars, they are being blamed for damage to other cars and pedestrians beyond the value of any protection they provide, and there is talk of banning them within city limits. Probably more of a social issue than a real liability issue, in my opinion.

That said, there are no kangaroos in North America. Only jackalopes.:)

Also my brother in L.A. has some oem bars and brush guards off of his 97 collecters edition for sale cheap! ;)

I always thought dealers should offer them in them in a choice of colors to match the wrought-iron fencing on the buyers driveway. ;)
