So I smashed the LH mirror of my 97 HDJ81 on a branch and, in addition to cracking the wind deflector and breaking off a mounting tab for the turning signal, it broke the plastic receiver for the retaining screw of the power mirror that keeps it from falling out.
To fix:
1. Take a M5 rivnut and cut off the lip and the top portion, leaving just the threaded cylinder
2. Drill out the remaining receiver to match the diameter of the rivnut
3. JB weld the rivnut in place
4. Use an M5 bolt with a washer to hold the mirror in place in the housing.
