What would cause the end of the fuel pup to break/bend?
I have a fresh motor and couldn't get it started so i searched and found a crapped out fuel pump. What would cause the inside the motor part to get bent and bashed? Also what damage could this have caused to the inside of the motor?
Thanks

In your signature link it would appear that you have a 1979 and later 40 series.

As has been posted, if you are not running the fuel pump spacer and have installed a fuel pump that requires the spacer, it will place the pump to deep into the camshaft and can cause the damage you are describing.

Look at the fuel pump lobe on the camshaft and make sure it is not damaged. A light and a mirror are probably going to be your friend here. Rotate the engine by hand after disconnecting the battery and ignition coil, and inspect the fuel pump lobe. It should be smooth and not tore up. If it is damaged and rough, it will damage another fuel pump arm.

Here's a pic from the SOR site: the spacer (#4) (SOR calls it an insulator) is black - you'll need it and 2 gaskets (#2) to mount between the block and the fuel pump....
