So they are finally working on my truck at the gear shop, I did not break a front inner axle, I did break my ring and pinion..... Good thing I have Nitro 4:88's going in!
It's all about the set up too. If there's too much back lash, or it's too shallow, or the side bearing pre-load is too loose, it deflects and puts the load on the weaker part of the ring gear teeth. So I hope you have a good gear shop. ZUK @gearinstalls.com does great work and is a Land Cruiser fan. He'll publish your set up and patterns for all to see. Very happy dealing with him.
The guys doing my work is J and S Gear Co. in Huntington Beach. I think they have been there for about 30 years or so and they always have really nice muscle cars and trucks being worked on every time I go. All they work on is gears, diffs, and axles. They seem to know what they are doing. My first encounter with them was when they put in my front ARB locker. They were fairly priced too. I'm not sure how much this is going to cost me, but I would recommend their services if you live in the Orange County Southern California Area.
