I like the looks of the before picture a little better, I mean, the brick driveway! Take another picture on the same driveway for a real comparison! lol
The tires look cool.
Congratulations!

I upped the pressure to 40 lbs. and the the truck is handling much better. My first full tank of gas went 262 miles before the light came on. I used to go around 290 miles before the light would come on with the Michelins. I know these tires are larger so the indicated miles is less due to the larger tires, but it shouldn't have been that much. I'm on my next tank with the tire pressure up, and so far it looks like I'll get better mileage.

Here's an after pic, I pulled the driver side step off and I love the look! But, unfortunately my wife and kids would have a hard time climbing in and out.

The size difference between your new 285/75's and your worn down 275/70's is about 6%.

262 miles plus 6% is about 278 miles. I would attribute the rest of the difference to additional tire weight, increased rolling resistance and driving style.

Yep - I've got the same experience with my new 285's right down to the mileage and impressions. I've been happy with their performance in the three large rainstorms we've had early here in Socal. I'm running 35 PSI with my '80. I think factory psi specs with the 275's is 32. Again that's on an 80.

You need the Slee step sliders! You'll get some protection, it'll look good with no factory running board, but there is still a little step for the family to use (and six easy bolts per side to take off the step for wheeling, if you want).

Got my pair coming, along with Christo's OME/Slee suspension kit. Now I gotta figure out how to swap torsion bars, as that is something I've never done before...

Yeah, I like the sliders but I really think that's overkill for me. My offroad adventures are nothing more than dirt roads or a sandy beaches. Once in a while I'll get a little crazy, but nothing to merrit sliders. We don't have to deal with large rocks in Florida. I think one of these days I will put a bull bar on, but that's to take out the little turbo rice burners with the fart pipes that are alway darting in and out of traffic. I've been looking at the Manik stainless tube style steps, they look good and are a bit cheaper.

Anything would be better then BFG A/T. The A/T’s do not stand to REAL all train use. This is a wanabe tire. Even the company admits that (in a round and about way “if you use the tires off road you should accept this type of damage”). There are chunks missing and the outer lugs are gone on my 10K miles A/T’s. Apparently it’s a common “wear pattern” of the A/T’s in the over-lander use. I will not get another set again

Thanks Cruiser99, I've already purchased the Nitto Terra Grapplers and am so far very pleased with their performance and completely stoked by their appearence.

Looks good! How do the 285's fill out the wheel wells from a width perspective?

anyone running 295's

Is anyone running 295/75/16? What would be needed to fit these?

Is the BFG A/T is the KO right? I have had that tire on every car that I have had for maybe 10 years. Lots of heavy 4wheelin without any problems. They have been good in the snow too. I have never had them on anything as heavy as the 100. They dont hold up well? I was going to buy them next month. I am probably one of the few that dont like the looks of the Nitto. What are other good options?

cruiser99,

What would you recommend over the bfg AT KO? I am thinking about the Nittos in 295.

I check BFG and Nitto speck and they are pretty much the same size in 295.
The Nitto 285 are a bit smaller than BFG though.

I have 285 on my 100 and the tire look small. 315/75R16 would look more proportional but I have to wait until there is affordable regearing option.

I have not compared the two tires side by side in a 295 width. But according to the Manufactures own specs, the Terra Grappler has a slightly wider section width. What is not listed is the tread width. In any case, the BFG's tread is very "squared-off" giving the look of being wide even though it might not be any wider.

Terra Grappler
Lt295/75 R16 123q
16.5 Tread Depth
33.27 diameter
11.73 Section Width
7.5-(8.0)-9.5 (measured on 8" rim)
3415@65 Load Capacity
624 Revs/mile

BFG AT/KO
295/75-16
17/32"
33.2"
11.5" Section Width
7.5-9.5" (measured on 8" rim)
3415 lbs./65 psi
626 Revs/mile

They look great, since the overall tire is larger it really fills the space. These tires are only supposed to be 1.2" taller than the Michelins, but when I'm parked next to the wifes '98LX in the garage, it really looks more like 2" to 3"!!!

I am talking about the KO. For what I am doing with my truck they are definitely not it. If you’re looking for a street tire that will see occasional light off road use, has very good side wall puncture resistance, that is surprisingly quiet on the highway and most importantly looks aggressive, the KO would be a good choice. But then again, almost any tire would do good in these situation. Before them I had the Dueler AT’s and they were just fine. I just fell into the BFG hype trap. Also I went to 315’s which are not available in the Dueler. I’ll try to take a picture this weekend and post it so you can see what I am talking about.
