Bridgstone Revos vs. BF Goodrich AT's

Yes, they are BFG AT KOs. I will have to admit I drive the beast pretty hard. When it rains, I will try it again. It may have been one of those mornings that traffic sucked and I was having a little to much fun before work. They are not hard at all like the old BFG ATs. I use to check out ATs along time before I ever bought any (guy thing, my wife is like what are looking at on that truck) and they had a hard rubber shine to them. These new ones do not look or feel hard at all.

I am talking big on the MTs. I will probably just try the 295/75 R 16 Nittos next because of the price. They are like $580 out the door, if I remember correctly. I got that quote from Discount Tires in Raleigh, NC.

I had the 285 Revos on my 00 4Runner--I loved them. They worked great on road and even better in the jungle--I would buy them again. For me they were great in standing water---maybe the guy above needs to lower his pressure a little......

Mtycruiser. so would you say that the size difference doesn't warrant the ODO recalibration? Looking at the link that hoser posted, it's looks like a PITA. I don't want to change the tire size bad enough to either make work, and/or hurt the truck.

The difference between a 31.3" and a 32.7" tire is a 4.5% increase in diameter. If your speedometer was accurate in the first place (unlikely), an indicated speed of 75mph would actually be 78.375mph. I think most people can live with it. If you were going 35's, then you would almost definitely need to get the truspeed calibrator.

Keep in mind, the ECU governs shift points based on the speedo output. Your tranny will shift slightly sooner than usual. But push your "power" button (do 100's have power buttons?) and your tranny will shift later than usual.

I've got Revos on the 100 and BFG Rugged Terrains on my Taco. My BFG's flat out suck in every category but the AT's are another story from the Rugged Terrains. If I were to run the BFG's to the treadwear indicator I'd end up in a ditch somewhere they would be so low on tread while the indicator on the Bridgestone leaves a better safety margin. Also, the Revo looks to outlast the BFG's in mileage by a significant margin as they have more tread after 35k miles than the BFG's did new! That's with the Revo's on a 100 and the BFG's on a flyweight Tacoma. The AT's wear the same or slightly faster than the BFG's on my Tacoma so I would expect wear to be far worse than with the Revos. I've never had to rotate the tires, wear is pancake even on all 4 and across each tire. I've also never had hydroplaning issues with the Revo. The 100's weight moves water nicely with a mediocre tire and I could plow through some good flooded areas with no problems on the Revos. As a matter of fact in Houston I got to do it almost every time it rained since the whole city holds water!

Get at least 285's in whatever tire choice though! It handles them fine with minimal speedo throwoff. I checked my speedo on 285's and at an indicated 65 I was doing 68 via GPS monitoring. That was without changing speedo calibration at all.

You can definitely live without doing the recalibration. the difference is really small, at 60 mph indicated you are actually going 63 mph.
Transmission shifting is not a big deal withh the 100UZJ torque, you can use the power button if you feel it sluggish (which I don't)
As I mentioned before, the truck looks a lot better with a 285/75 ( 33 in) vs a 275/70 (31 in) actual MPG is not affected, maybe slightly better on HWY.

I agree 100% w/ mtycruiser.

If you want to see what the diff look there is between OEM Michelin LTX 275's and Revo 285's look at this link. https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=22648&highlight=tires
I posted pics of mine b4 and after on an FZJ80 - it will give you a good idea. Like the way the 285's fill out the wheel well. First few hundred miles impression is good. Barely audible difference from the Michelin. Handling about the same.

You can go as stated previously w/o speedo recalibration with a Truspeed. Remember you are also recording less mileage on the odo so when it comes to signing an little piece of paper about your true mileage if/when you sell. Be forwarned. Slee sells the Truspeed. He also has a speedo correction gear for the 91-97's :flipoff2: You'd have to contact him about the 100's, I don't know. Have my gear on order from him. Per my GPS on old tires speedo 60, GPS 58. Now Speedo 60, GPS 62-3. Figure correction gear ought to put me at 60 and 60.

Best of luck.

Brent reminded me that I did similar pictures on my LX of the 285's w/ the different suspension settings. Better to have too much info than not enough right?

edit: Forgot the damn link!!HERE

hehehe and that reminds me to say that my suspension is OME 861/862 medium duty. Translated about 1/2" lift up front and 3/4" lift rear. Almost stock.

Congrats!!

****Update*****

I took the '99 to Discount Tire yesterday because they assured me the tires were "coming." Anyway, I left it there all day and he called me at 3:00PM to tell me they could only get 3 tires and the other would be in on Thursday. I hung up the phone and called their competitor and got a better price but will have to wait a few days. So, I'll put the pics up when I get the new Nitto's.

Well I spent the weekend driving everywhere I can think of, but not offroad yet. I can definitely hear them more than the Michelins but that was expected. Also, I notice the ride is a little more rough. I haven't taken the time to check the pressure that the shop put in, so I think I will have to play with that a bit to find the best ride/gas mileage combo. I am really pumped about how they look on the truck!!!

If anyone has any suggestions about how to determine the optimal pressure it'd help.

Thanks again for everyone's input!

Very nice!!!! As far as pressures, I run factory spec but others on the board run from a little under that on up to 50! Check to at least make sure they are all the same whatever it is and then loosen and properly retorque every lugnut so that if you have to change them one day you don't have to fight the gorilla air wrench tightened nuts then.
Congrats once again
