Hi everybody, my question is simple, (like an irish turf layer asking.... green side up?) do you need to increase the spark plug gap when updating to a FJ60 electronic ignition on a FJ40 2F, if so to what gap? thanks Rumrebela

I haven't in the three years I've had my FJ60 ignition...

Edit: you got me curious so I looked into it...

According to Rockauto.com-

Gap for my '74 FJ40 was .032" for Federal Emissions, and .040" for California.

Gap for a '85 FJ60 was the same, .032" except for a model or two of sparkplug that req's.040".

Maybe someone else will have better information..

thanks for the lead , when i changed to electronic in 253 v8 hilux the gap was widened, like a croc 's jaws about to take a dingo, to 100 thou, so i was woundering if i needed to do the same though not to that extent, to enjoy the benefits of a bigger bang

Often times an electronic ignition system will allow one to run a larger gap. A larger gap allows a faster flame spread which creates a more efficient fuel burn. I don't know what it will be on your particular setup but you could experiment by opening up the gap 5 thousands at a time and see what your results are. When you get to the point where it seems that you are losing power, go back one or two settings and you should be good.
