I have done the axle breather extensions, front and rear
Was planning to do trans and transfer case too.
Did search and looked under rig.

Couple of questions:

- saw mention of diff lock breathers. Don't see anything like a breather out of my diff locks. Any such thing on a 97?
- trans and transfer case breathers appear to end in trans dipstick. So no need to extend these, right? Seems pretty high already...

thx

zen going to your head, baldy? :D

anyway, come to think of it, isn't the trans dipstick ending in an Oring? Seems like that shouldn't be the best breathing spot then?

Hey e9999, have you looked at the technical link above? I think it was George Scolaro who did the tranny/t/case/fr&rr diffs up to the engine bay. It was a nice set up and he did a fantastic job.

George has a nice write up on it...stick you hand up on top of the tranny and x-fer and you'll feel it pretty easily.

Maybe on the girlie tranny models, not much room above the 442...

I've been planning to install breathing extensions myself as water crossings are fairly common here.

Would it make sense to simply pull out the stock, replace them with long hoses and fit a fuel filter to the ends ? Would the fuel filters serve in the same way as the copper caps on the stock breathers ?

Diff lock breather is in the wiring harness - no need to extend....

yes, I saw something that looked like a vaccuum line coming out and going into the split loom. So that would be it. Where does it end?

so, what about the trans? Dipstick high enough?

E the T-case and Trans breathers do not empty into the trans dipstick, if you look closely they are just mounted to it and open to the air at that spot. That is probably high enough for most crossings you would do with an 80 with a leather interior but I also wanted filtration so I combined those two with the 2 diffs and routed them up to an inline filter near the master cylinder, used steel line for most of it as it is cheaper and sturdier than hose just takes more time to work with.

BTW instead of trying to get new line on top of the trans and T-case I just reused the old lines by cuting them shorter and tapping into the new manifold heading for the engine bay.

The rear locker breather terminates in the left jack area, a fairly dry spot, the CDL tee's into the T-case breather, I don’t know where the front locker goes
