Hello all, I'm looking for some help. My '02 100 series has a brake light on the instrument cluster that won't go off.

Since it starting staying on I've confirmed the e-brake is off, had the brake pads checked (all over 80% life remaining) and had the brake fluid changed and confirmed that the level is correct. All this yet the light remains on.

Anyone have a suggestion on what may be causing this and a suggestion to fix it?

Thank you in advance.
Brett

Is it the red "e-brake" light on the dash that is illuminated? If so then you need to know that the ebrake system is totally different from the normal braking system. The ebrake has it's own dedicated pads and doesn't use brake fluid, but rather just a cable routed from the handle in the cab to the rear wheels. This sounds more like an electrical issue and unfortunately I am lost when it comes to that so I will be of no help. Maybe a fuse in the drivers side kick panel?? Take a look at these diagrams of the ebrake system and then crawl under your truck and make sure that nothing is overly rusted and frozen.

Try pushing down on your parking brake lever, mine will be lit unless I make sure its pushed all the way down. Im sure you can adjust it somehow, Ive just never cared to dig into it yet. But that sensor (PN 84450), is what controls the parking brake light.

It also comes on when brake oil level is low.

Thank you for the replies, suggestions and the schematics, I really appreciate it!

TheForger, thank you for reminding me that the ebrake system is separate from the regular brake system. I honestly completely forgot...duh on my part.

To answer you 2001LC, no there is no alarm or buzzer, just the light.

Nissanh, is brake oil the same as brake fluid?

^^Yes Sir!

Since the light came on I had the brake fluid replaced and have confirmed that it's at the correct level. I was hoping that was the issue.

Sorry for the revive here.

Funny, this happened to me. First time the light came on was after I finally removed the fake wood trim. I assumed some dirt and/or goo-gone got in the sensor when I pulled the console. I'd spend a few minutes chasing it every once in a while, sometimes the light would be off and I'd loose interest. I finally decided to pull it apart and take some contact cleaner to it; no luck. Search, find thread, top off brake fluid, light off, crack beer.

Did it work?

So far, yes! Brake fluid did the trick.

I guess I should remember to try the simple solutions first...
