I've got the "faint" brake light indicator lit on the dash and am convinced after research/reading/etc. that it's a faulty brake fluid reservoir cap/sensor. Mud price via Camelback is ~$100 (delivery fee included).......geesh! I need to replace this since the circuit it's on is preventing my radio from working (aftermarket unit that obviously has a pretty sensitive voltage/current detection circuit and keeps throwing a "miswiring" error) - no music = no fun.

Anyone possibly have a lead on a part they know works that won't run me that much or is this just one of those "buy it and stop complaining" moments? Wanted to check with the local folks first, thx all....

IDK first hand, but I would think you could grab one from another Toyota product in the junk yard.

1/2 day without any offers, CT it is!!

Fluid level's fine but appreciate the thought. Thx for the above, didn't even occur to me to look at Amazon........"ships 1 to 2 months" is outside my window now that I'm anxious to resolve this - will stick with CBT who can have in my hands in <= 48 hours.

thx!!

Order placed, also grabbed gaskets/grommets for valve cover since it's time for that timing to be done. Steve over at CBT helped out - always nice to start the day with a good chat with someone who knows his stuff and seems genuinely interested in helping out. I'll treat this as another win for the CBT gang.....

Parts picked up today, installing tomorrow night.....

Cap replaced Friday night, "faint" brake light on dash no longer an issue (~9 hours last weekend of being in the White Mountains, pretty confident that issue is forever gone).

Unfortunately, my audio HU is still temperamental (I, admittedly, never looked directly at a wiring diagram to see if there's a tie between the two circuits but something is still shorting somewhere that makes my HU go into a protection mode after ~3 vehicle starts and the brake reservoir cap/sensor replacement didn't resolve it). Will have to post a separate "got any ideas" on that one later.....the 80 keeps me on my toes, no doubt about it.

Ending my own thread for no reason other than to possibly help some poor soul down the road.

My temperamental HU was due to a metal screw holding in an aftermarket speaker in the passenger rear door which was contacting the metal of the door itself. This was causing a minor short/feedback the HU was able to detect and subsequently threw a fault. So, while the reservoir cap DID need to be replaced (and happy I did, another thing "fixed"), it had nothing at all to do with my experienced audio problems.

One dilemma at a time.....
