Morning all. Yesterday my wife's GX470 lost most of it's brake fluid. Wife said she hit a rough patch of road and the dashboard lights lit up. Gas tank is soaked in what I assume is brake fluid. Haven't crawled under it yet. Hoping it is just a busted rusty brake line.

Replaced rusty brake lines on XJs, Wranglers. Anything Unique with the GX470? I learned this winter my 4th gen 4runner needed to be running to bleed the brakes.

We are camping for the week with limited bandwidth. Have access to NAPA, Lexus dealer, O'Reilly.

Keep us posted…I’m interested to hear what broke.

I was on a recent trip to Baja and an FJCruiser busted a rigid brake line at the wheel. I learned a few things about the brakes on that trip.

Line was built and fixed on the trail.

Haven’t had to replace any lines, but you do need techstream to bleed the system properly.

Think I found it. Looks like the leak is at the transition from hardline to soft line in the rear. Most of fluid was dripping out of the gas skid plate. Looks like I have drop the skid plate to replace the brake line along the frame?

Blast it off with brake cleaner and see where it’s coming from

this maybe a good time to extend the rear brake lines with SS ones.

Halfway there.

My bending skills are not the greatest but it is run through all the clips.

72" flare tip m10x1 was a decent fit. Found it O'Reilly's. Poor guys were the only auto parts store open on the 4th of July. Have about twoish extra inches.

Now to remount the gas tank and bleed the brakes. Weee

We had this happen too. Should replace that other line while you are there!

You are correct. The other one is looking crusty. Was doing the work in the middle of the field where we are camping. Going to order prebent lines and replace both this summer.

I have a significant to do list on the GX470 this summer. Brakes, rotors, muffler (someone hack welded a muffler in and got rid of the bolt junction between the Y split and muffler), gas tank strap, frame rust prevention. Not to mention wife wants a lift, new tires, and sliders.

Picking up my fiancée's rig today. She has been in this mode since we moved it south from Nova Scotia. SO much remediation and repair and upgrading. Basically replaced everything underneath.
