Hi,
Does anyone have some experience with a brake controller on a 60?

I want to tow a light tandem around 3k pounds with my turbo BJ60, with 4.11 gears.

So I want to have a the trailer(haven't purchased yet) to have electric brakes.

I was thinking of an inertia controller. That way when I downshift on hill I also get some trailer braking. The 3B has quite a bit of compression braking. Then if the vehicle needs more brake on a hill I still have the vehicle brakes to press.

Tekonsha Voyager

Any thoughts or recommendations?

I will be installing it myself too.

An inertial controller won't work the way you describe it going down a hill. When you back off of the gas, the controller won't do anything. It takes an actual deceleration from braking to get it to operate, since it doesn't activate until you touch the brake pedal. Even then there is an aggravating (but adjustable) built in time delay that ramps the braking effort slowly up to the max setting.

I hate intertial controllers, tho the Voyager and P3 are probably the best out there. A controller with mechanical hookup is much better and more usable off road and on loose surfaces. I have a Jordan and it's terrific.

Another point, you should never rely on the trailer brakes to help slow the truck! They are there just to control the trailer and cargo. When the electric brakes are set up correctly, you shouldn't really feel them operating unless you drive across a loose patch or gravel or something.

Thanks for the info.

I'll look into the Jordan.
