Nearly finished the trail but had to cut it short around mile 64 due to the high winds. Came home a day early.

Still Good times

Just saw your site: It would have been the/a BOMB if you took one of those "missiles" home. :D

The dual tire carriers are looking good!

Wow. A better perspective in how big those are. Definitely bigger than I imagined when watching those Vietnam bombing pics in the History Channel.

Wind, scmind. . .

Dude, your truck weighs a gazillion tons!
What was the wind gonna do, slow you down even more?!

LOL

Naah it was sleeping another night that would have killed me, not driving in it. Half way through Friday night we moved to inside the truck. The RTT just was too loud for us to get any sleep. 60 mph winds will do that ;)

Cool pics Dave, thanks for sharing. I noticed Dixie running around in a few, great co-pilot. Not discrediting Yoshi of course. ;)

Looks like fun, minus the winds! All I got to do was build shelving in my garage to get a third car in! You and the guys on the turkey sandwich run had much, much more fun!!!

Very Cool write-up. Very weird where the trail head begins, I wouldn't even think it would be legal to drive on the aquaduc. (SP?)

Yeah i would think the same but it's actually a BLM marked off highway road. We saw quads and actually a full fiberglass tube buggy racing down one side. It was pretty weird.

All of the yahoos started to disappear as we got deeper into the trail and away from services. It was great. :D

Yeah that’s a cool trail if you hit up some of fun side trips to Red Canyon, Red Cloud Mine, Geo beds, up a rocky canyon to a look-out. etc.

I’ve run the whole trail both ways over the years, but never all at once. Thought it was ~ 100miles or more on the dirt to the end. Let me know if you plan on going back, starting out or camping in Red Cyn would be nice.

your RTT is a CTT, right?
no 60mph wind problems besides noise?

Yes, its a CTT.

Nope, just flexes a tad. The rain fly gets louder than hell no matter how tight i make it (yes i can take it off, but its a PITA at our truck height). It's also mounted to the INTI with 2 people and a dog in it. It's not going anywhere.

that's good. That's one thing where the old one might have a bit of an advantage, I guess, less sail effect.

IMHO, the old one would probably do worse. Its like a big box that doesn't have much support. Slight breezes would cave in the sides of the old one. The quality was really lacking in the material. It wasn't heavy duty enough. The old one you could practically see through it with a flash light.. the new one is dark and pretty thick. The new version is like night and day. The new version is like canvas where the old one was like a bag that you cover your camp chair with.
