Ok, so about 6 yrs ago I had a '95 4runner, lifted on 32's winch bar etc.... The thing was PRETTY and could handle her own off road. It was the ltd so it had leather and all the bells and whistles. A friend of mine bought this huge vehicle and I wasn't impressed until I rode in it. It happened to be a 93 LC 80 series with OME's and a hood denter, but damn if it didn't look good and wheel good. I was hooked and wanted one. His dad worked at the auto auction and I asked him to look for one for me, he called the next day, he had purchased a '95 for a good price and low miles, well lower than my 4runner, sold the 4runner and bought this thing with money left over, so naturally I had to buy an OME susp. Drove this truck many places, joined STLCA, took it to tellico, got carnage etc... Fast forward 3 years, I drove it from Nashville to Asheville, totally loaded down with junk from our house and my 2 dogs with the engine running the entire time 7 hrs total so the dogs stayed cool and she never missed a lick. Well this thing came out called the FJ Cruiser and I HAD to have one, so I sold the 80 to a former UC member and I had my FJC. I drove it for a year and it was OK, but it wasn't my Land Cruiser. So I find this 60 series for next to nothing and put it on my credit card, it ran awesome and somewhere along the way I sold the FJ and bought a 100 series, but none as fun to drive as my 80. As many of you know I had my 60 for sale on the forum and it sold to a guy from down in east NC that is part of ONSC which was cool, so I call the guy who had my 80 and inquired if he wanted to part with it, and for the right price he said yeah! So I arranged to go pick it up. I get in and she is pretty much just as I remembered with a few more miles under her belt, however half way home I noticed a noise, a noise that had me suspicious AND it was starting to heat up going up hill under load. I pull over and hear a loud knock from the front of the motor NOT COOL!! So I drive the rest of the way home and drop it at my friend's shop. Well we start diagnosing and my fears were realized.....Rod bearing, number 1 cyl and #6 cyl. So I am pretty pissed at this point, but we drop both oil pans and the crank isn't scored, so we are hoping that we can just replace the bearings with factory spec ones and get her rolling again. I looked at it from this perspective, worst case scenario I have to buy a new engine, or at least a used one. Cruiser parts.net has a 97 with just over 110k that they tested and will come with a 1 yr warranty so that might be the way I go if we cant get her fixed.

Long story short Caveat emptor, but I have my 80 back.....

P.S. any help, advice anyone wants to lend would be most appreciated we are in fletcher just off of 25 and anyone can give me a call if interested in helping the cause!!!

No need to buy from someplace where your gonna get raped on shipping. Just get the phone book out and do a search of the car yards around you. You would be surprised what you can find and what they will end up selling it to you for.

Well an update... we put new rod bearings in it to band aid it until I can source/pay for an engine. Tomorrow we will be putting the oil pan back on, filling her and starting it up. I know it will wear quick and it will eventually break, but I guess if I get some time out of the engine I am going to be happy. One thing, if anyone ever has to do this.... don't be an idiot like me and keep the bolts in some sort of order...that is totally a newbie mistake and I should not have done it, but I was in a hurry and I hope I figure out where they all go..... Wish me luck!!!!

good luck man. i hope everything works out for you.

Holler, if I get it running maybe we can get up and have a beer or something and we'll see how it sounds.... If you come up or go back 26 you will go directly by my house, you still have my number don't you???

No we are still contemplating taking the crank out thru the bottom, some say yes others say no it can't be done, but hey maybe i'll be the first one!!! We will be digging in on Sat. so we will know more then, but until then I am making a list of things to replace while I have it apart, water pump, rod bearings, mains etc.... Wish me luck, and if anyone wants to help, we will take all we can....
