If you want mileage and are swapping anyways why not go diesel. a turbod 3b would put your mpg likely in the high twenties.

That's a good thought...so many options!
We had a post a few months ago that outlined the cost of a stock 2F rebuild. It was about $1500 if I remember correctly. If I was going to do it I would pull the engine and take it to my local Napa machinest for the short block work and to a pro head builder for the head work. I would expect the Bill to be around $2000. You would also get some form of warranty.
