Virgil can cut keys and program chips and he did that at the meeting last sat. Why would you go to AmToy and pay premium?
I remember seeing something about that but didn't really pay attention. I will contact him. Good point. Thanks.

Pay ATTENTION damn it! When a welder gingerly types up a long thread, you know he ain't doing it at 100 word/min. He is prolly hen pecking on that keyboard for half hour

Just for S&G, I'll add my inputs on the tires. I have the Falken Wildpeak AT/3s in the P rating and they're awesome. I tow all the time and managed to beat the crap out of them at DV, Ouray and wherever else w/o any issues, chunking or slicing. The price point when I bought them was stupid low, not sure now and they're uber quiet. I also love their blockiness appearance over a rounded edge but that's a personal preference.

These are the first set of P rated tires as I've always bought LT tires. But, the intended use, wheeling and long term practicality dictated P over LT. Not to mention the weight and cost is significantly less.

The best 'deal' I'm seeing at Discount for 265/65 - R17 for tires that I would consider worthy are Hankook Dynapro ATM RF10, SL load range, for $142 ea. Cooper Discover AT3, SL Range are $148. Falken Wild Peak A/T3W in XL Range? is at $160. If I want to go with E Range, stuff starts at about $190. BGF AT KO2 comes in at $207. It probably doesn't matter what I think anyway. We'll get whatever Danise wants, since it's her new truck.

I think I bought my set for $130/each but they're P rated. I have no need for LT rated tires on this rig.

Haha. That's mostly right. It took longer than that, had to figure out how to post pictures.

Alright, now I'm kind of angry. When I test drove the 4R before I bought it, I plugged in my OBD2 scanner and discovered that one of the readiness monitors (the one for Oxygen sensors) was not fully set but there were no active codes in memory. The PO stated that he had just replaced the battery so I assumed he just hadn't driven it enough drive cycles to set that readiness monitor.

I took it out on the freeway yesterday for about 15 minutes and then some stop and go driving for another 15 minutes. No CEL but I am getting code P0430 [Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)]. So now I'm angry. I'm angry at the PO for possibly hiding the fact that it was having this issue previously and I'm angry with myself for not being more diligent with my test drive, scanning and questioning.

The next step is to decide if I want to throw parts at it or if I should take it somewhere to hook up their Scan Tool and attempt to diagnose if it's a catalytic converter or a sensor issue. I was looking at a diagram of the complete exhaust system. I see 4 cats. It's not clear to me if the O2 sensor goes between the cat below the manifold and the lower cat. Seems like there should be a final O2 sensor(s) after the second set of cats but I couldn't see if that was the case on the diagram I was looking at?

Does anybody have a Scan Tool capable of reading sensor outputs and determining if it's a sensor or the actual cat that is NFG?

You need Techstream. I can maybe help out one evening or even during the day before 2:00. No problem to run into town.

On the tires. I cant find ANY tires that last me more than 20000 miles. I drive a lot of hard packed dirt roads and they all wear out. I have found the BFG ats to be the absolute best in the snow. They load up and being that snow will stick to snow they grab great. They suck in our mud though. I have the Falken Wildpeaks on mine and like them so far, but havent tried in snow yet. I order tires on Amazon and have them mounted and balanced by a buddy that has a shop in Moriarty. Usually save 60-100 bucks buying on Amazon just on tax.

@marcfj60 I have a set of 3 Michelin MTX M/S2 P255/70R18 tires I took off the Lexus. They have about 15k miles on them, the dealer put them on but, and they looked good on the Lexus but there were a few issues, so I went back to stock. I'll give you a good deal, $200 for the 3.
  • I kept getting rubbing on compression and turn (no offroading, just every time I turned in/out of the driveway).
  • This over-sized would not fit in spare location
  • I got an unrepairable hole on one of them

Factory tread depth (new) 11.5/32" These all are at 8/32"

I saw the oil filter sitting up there, out in the open, easy to get to. I wondered what kind of slobbery mess it would make when I unscrewed it since it sits kind of upright.

If it's like the Tacoma engine, just below the filter, there is a little round tray to catch any leakage. If you look underneath that, there is a little rubber cover on a drain hole/spout. When I changed the oil, I just pulled the rubber cover and wedged a little plastic bowl (like a margarine tub) underneath there, and it caught all the drips. Just wipe out the little tray and your margarine tub, and put the rubber plug back and you're done.

You can unscrew the filter just enough to let it drain and the margarine tub catches all the mess. Then you just dump the margarine tub into your main drain pan.

I am not doing a very good job of explaining it, but take a look and you will see what I mean. Much less hassle and clean up for oil changes than any other Toyota I have worked on.

The Kamparoo is a solid 430#s and the utility trailer varies from 250-700#.

You should get a CEL that tells you which bank, which sensor post cat that is the issue. If it's just one sensor on one side, move it to the other side and see if it follows. Then again, I have a '03 which may be slightly different than yours. I wonder if we both have just one sensor post the last cat so that it's common to both banks. I bet that's how it is.

I have Techstream if you need to use it. Just show up at another breakfast meeting and we'll hook it up. Although, given your appearance rate, might be 2019 since you blew your mtg wad for the year :flipoff2:

Is that tongue weight or overall weight? Usually want to keep tongue weight around 10% of overall weight of trailer.

Yup, that's my tongue weight! Sometimes I pull a 7,000# trailer but not often.

Oh ok. That just seemed pretty heavy for tongue weight on a kamparoo. How does your 80 do pulling that much? I quit pulling our 5000lb travel trailer with the LX and now use the wife's GX. It pulls it a lot better.

Thanks for the offer but the 4R has 17" rims.

You're doing a great job of describing it. I hadn't inspected the filter shroud/housing to see how it all worked nor the existence of the rubber plug.

I like your idea of swapping sides with the sensors. The code coming up is P0430 which is indicative of "Bank 2". From what I can see, there are 4 cats with an O2 sensor located between the first and second cat on each side. I can't see on the diagram I'm looking at if there are any O2 sensors downstream of the second set of cats.

I could wait until the next breakfast but I need to get it registered now. So I need to pay for an emissions test and have it fail. Then I need to take it to a shop and pay them to diagnose it so they can give me a written estimate showing the repair is over $300. Then I have to take that information to the Vehicle Pollution Management division on Broadway to request an extension to get it into compliance. Then I can get a license plate for it. Otherwise I'm driving it around town without a license plate, risking getting a ticket for not having a plate on it.
