So now we have three 4wd Toyotas! It's a sickness, and it is incurable!
I had my mind set on finding a Corolla or Camry for her to replace her 4wd van. I was intent on moving her into the '90's at least. But it was not to be. She saw this little wagon and fell in love!
She has coveted those little Tercel 4wd tall wagons ever since they were introduced 25 years ago. Now she owns one, and yes, it is 25 years old! It is a real antique. She loves it!
A lady bought it new and drove it until she was too old to drive. She sold it to a guy 8 months ago and we bought it from him. The odometer reads 054104! We have all of the service records. I spent Sunday afternoon looking over everything, and it is in great condition. It was painted a cream color from the factory. It was badly faded, but polished out nicely. The inside is clean except for the seats. They show 25 years of sun damage. I will fix them.
It's a cute little 4wd. Mama likes it! Even the oil change is cute. My 80 needs ten quarts. This thing takes 3 1/2 quarts, burps and says "thanks"! How cute is that? Oh! did I mention 28 MPG? That's kind of cute too!
It is not very fond of fossil fuels. That's OK with me! I don't need to personally support the economy of Iraq! That's not my job!
Now I get to claim the 4wd Toyota van as mine! After a much-needed round of maintenance, I will set it up as a four-seater with my tools in the back. It is a rather solid unit, a 1/2-ton 4wd truck with a van body. Jill has enjoyed it for several years, and even wrecked it pretty hard once. It is the first really custom vehicle that she has had. But it is a bit heavy for her style. The little wagon does everything the van does, but does it all lighter and more easily. So I get the van. Works for me! My 80 needs a break. It has been working too hard. Soon I'll be working the 4wd Toyo van and saving the Cruiser for the good times!

Me too! MIL, that is. '08 RAV4. 2WD, 'cause we really don't plan on needing another trail rig. :D Her criteria was MPG, room, and MPG. After disqualifying the Element due to no middle seatbelt on the rear seat, having a used CRV run out of gas on the test drive, and finding the Matrix too small for her liking, she drove the RAV and gave me the nod. (She speaks only French, so we play charades alot.) I got them to knock off a couple of ticky-tack charges like paint protection and parts registration for theft protection, but that's about it- they don't deal much on these. He said I could have much money off if I wanted a Sequoia or Tundra- no thanks. So, now Mom-in-law has her own car to drive, and she'll be closing on her own house this week, so things are going smoothly for her move to America.

I am similar. I have taught Jill well. She is of the "pay cash or pass" mentality. All of our cars and our home are paid for and bought with cash. We carry no debt except for credit cards. As modest as it may be, everything that we have is paid for in cash. We own all of it. We have 1/3 acre with a three bedroom home. We own all of it. As humble as it may be, there is no place like one that is paid for in cash. Home is where the cash is!

I'm jealous of you for that. We have paid cash for all the vehicles, but still have a loan on the house for another 10 years or so. I can't wait to own it. :D

Congrats on the new Toyota! You must be very excited about it since you have 2 new threads on it in less than 24 hours :D

You also have a cute 80 that takes 10 qts of motor oil.

Me too! -Spike

Me three...just brought home (last night, cause Brittan didn't talk me out of it:flipoff2:) a GX470 for the missus, it was time to retire her RX; plus this one actually has a two speed transfer case.:hillbilly: Wonder how it will tow....
It's a bit shiny for my usual taste!

Me three...

Ooh- in most countries that's a Land Cruiser! My wife tells me they're using them as police cars in Europe.

Congrats everyone! Must have been a full moon or something. :D

It is going around. Anything on wheels that is compact and fuel-efficient is selling like hotcakes!
Before vacation, I was looking for something like a 4-runner that I could carry tools in and still have 4 seats for the family when a spare car is needed, and 4-wheel drive for my work.
While we were away, the idea came up to replace the van and use it for the work/spare unit.
Before we went traveling, small Jap cars were a dime a dozen. One was for sale on every street corner.
Once we decided to buy a car instead of a truck, all of the high-MPG cars disappeared! Older high-MPG sedans are the hot selling item right now. They are gold!
When we bought the little 4wd wagon, we had three people in line behind us, hoping that we would not buy it! I have to applaud the integrity of the seller. He could have easily started a bidding war over the car, raising the price substantially. But he didn't. He sold it for the asking price to the first family in line who had the cash. That was us. I tip my hat to him! Jill loves her new/old car!

I'm taking it up to payette this weekend....we will see if it really is a cruiser under all that shiny %$&*. I figure stock it should get through the first two sections no problem?
It did do OK when it came out:
