A while back, I had posted about my ever-rising EGTs. I ended up getting a couple of new O2 sensors since the #2 looked flakey on a scan. Anyhow, R&R'd #1 without a hitch. Moved to #2 and...the bolts were half disintegrated. Looked like someone had rounded them over quite nicely and left them to rust. Odd part was, I am the original owner, and these were original. Go figure. I couldn't budge them, no matter what I tried (6-point, sand in the socket, prayers, cussing, pissing and moaning...).

Somebody hear had recommended Bolt-Outs. So after failing to get them off with the above mentioned methods, I ordered the bolt-outs. After two minutes under the truck, both bolts were off! Geeze, I should have had these in my toolbox years ago!

To make a long story short, I still have the somewhat higher EGTs, but now I have two new O2 sensors  . I've actually noticed the EGTs running slightly cooler, but I don't think that's the source of the higher readings. I'm beginning to suspect the probe.

got a set a few months ago, havn't had the use for them yet.........but expect to and glad to hear they work.

I think I told you about them from Sears.
Now that they have been tested :D , I will have to get them when the Craftman's sale starts again.

Did you get the gasket off and cleaned up real good???
If there is any gasket left on, you will have a leak and the senosr will send a falce signal.

I had to remove the exhaust pipes to get all the gasket material off asa it was rusted on real good/bad.

Thanks for the tip! Paid for them on just this one job alone.

Yes, the gasket leaves a fiberous layer that I had to scrape off with a razor. Cleaned up nicely.

you got a link for these things??? i just checked yahoo for "Bolt-Outs" and got nothing...

thanks

are these thinns that look like sockets with spiraled sharp grooves inside them? if so, i can second the value of them and their counterpart the "screw-out"(?) that gets stripped and otherwise f'ed up slot and philips screws out.

pretty cheap tools that pay for themselves at first use.

oh oh i found them on the sears web site just search" Craftsman "bolt-outs" "

That's them...they're like $50 for a full set of them. They cover both SAE and metric sizes since they're not specific to any single size nut.
