I'm trying to pull together some tools for the trail (and maybe upgrade the ones for home). Do you know which of the 3 metric standards (ISO/ANSI, DIN, JIS) Toyota uses on the 200? Depending on the standard, the "same size" bolt could have 3 different head sizes. JIS uses 12, 14, 17, 19, 22 while ISO uses 13, 15, 16, 18, 21, 24. I'd rather not have to drag a full set of 20 wrenches (5.5-24). Plus it would double the cost of upgrading wrenches and sockets.

I'm also curious where you "draw the line" -- do you need the really large sizes 24, 27, 30, 36 mm?

Thanks

Buy a set of sockets from 4 to 27. Every time you use one on the car, put it in the car toolkit. That way you’ll have everyone you need and none you don’t.
A breaker bar and set of stubby ratcheting combination wrenches is handy too.
The car toolkit included in the tailgate actually has most everything but the torx bit. It just isn’t very efficient.

Toyota generally follows JIS for bolt sizes...they also use JIS sheet metal screws (looks like phillips but you get a better fit with JIS screwdrivers.

#grinchy's suggestion is a great one.

The largest Metric ONLY Gear Wrench ratchet flex head combo set has every Toyota Size starting at 8mm - 19mm

This is what I did. I try to always do repairs out of my every day kit to see what missing. Most bolts are under 12mm except brake calipers are 17mm and lugnuts which are 22.

Thanks Steve. Fortunately I haven't had to work on too many things. So my car kit would just be a 17mm for the brakes (-:

RagingMatt, I'll check them out. I don't have any ratcheting combo wrenches, so that could be a good addition

Older thread, but for future mudders...

Out if my metric set I’ve used:

- 10 and 12 mm for most body bolts, skid plates, bleeders, etc
- 14 mm on some drivetrain
- 17 mm for brakes, suspension
- 22 mm for lugs and some drivetrain
- 24mm for differential plugs and heaver duty linkages, etc
- 3/8” drive for the oil filter drain + Toyota 64mm oil filter wrench
- You’ll also want a 10mm hex wrench for the front diff drain plugs

The only other size I’ve seen mentioned (but never had to use) is 39mm for the axle nut.
