Yesterday I had some great indoor fireworks. One off the copper tubes ion my ac broke (very small hole) and I had an explosion of coolant into the room. Is this something I can just sodder shut and then have the it recharged, or should I just buy a new unit all together. The unit isn't that old, and everything else works just fine.

The sodder will not hold on a high pressure line like that to fix AC lines they need to be brazed and I think there is a brazing rod that is special for refrigerant systems.

Ofcouse the size of the hole plays into it also.

Warranty?
For fear the solder may fail I would recommend a new unit. I'm also not sure of the cost of a recharge on a window unit but if the repair doesn't hold you just threw that money out.

Ah crap, this group is rubbing off on me. I should have known better to be staring at Parker's post while I typed out a post.

But anyway SOLDER will not hold on a high pressure line

For such a small unit it may be prudent to just buy a new one.

You can brace with 15% silver. It is about $12 a stick. You need to use either propane turbo torch or oxi-aceteline. Vacuum the system with a vacuum pump for about two hrs. If you want to do it right 400 micros in a micron gauge. Then recharge. Make sure that u change the filter drier. Good luck
