Hey all, got an 00 LX that surprisingly for a Canadian truck didn't come with a factory block heater. Was wondering what y all run and if there's any specific one I should look at getting? Sadly don't have a heated garage. Thx

I installed a Pyroil freeze plug heater many years ago. I see there is one listed on ebay, "Engine Block Heater Five Star Manufacturing 11414". Napa appears to sell the same one, "KAT 11414". I only used it a few times in North Dakota but seemed to work fine:

Edit: Also available on Amazon:

Kat's 11414 400 Watt 35mm Frost Plug Heater

A 400 W block heater is really too small. Good enough for a 1.2 litre engine, not for a land cruiser. I tried it - thought that the manufacturer must be a specialist and that the model specific 400 W frost plug heater would be enough, but it's hardly noticeable even after 5 hours, or more. I gave up on it and got a 1000 W hose heater, which kind of worked, only that the model I got had a problem with leaking. So, I ended up with a compact, fuel burning webasto water heater. Never been happier - this thingy has been running for 8.9 years now, without a hickup and no service. 5 kw of heat started or programmed by sms commands. Heats engine, clears windows and melts snow and ice.

Curious how you plumbed this all in! Have always wanted a Webasto!

I found that a 400w block heater was too slow in a 2F engine years ago. The 2F is just too big a lump to heat up.

The problem with 1000w tank-style heaters is that they'll pop your circuit breaker if much else is on the circuit. I use a 750w tank heater on my snow plow truck and while not great, it helps with cold starting.

HDJ100L. Plumbed in series with the power heater. Fuel from the return pipe just behind the Webasto, under the brake booster. This is a Thermo Top Evo.
