lower rad hose heater, should be 1 1/2" (or 1 1/4", buy both and take the one you dont need back)
I second the lower rad hose heater. they work better than the block heaters (IMO). I find you get heat sooner in the cab sooner than with a block heater as well. I think the ideal heater is aa circulating heater but they are a bit more work to plumb in.. good luck..

You don't want to knock that freeze plug out and find that the block heater you thought would fit doesn't.
The rad hose heater along with an oil pan heater is what I'm doing in my HDJ81.

only downside of the oil pan heater is if you wheel then it can get ripped off or the plug wire get ripped out...
No block heater for the 1HD-T?
Are you guys saying there are NO block heaters that fit the 1HD-T, or is it because it's too much trouble to install?

I'll check out the freeze plug size later. I like the idea of block heaters much better, if installtion is not too much of a pain, of course... Do you have a source for replacement freeze plugs?

I heard once that unless its really cold stay away from oil pan heaters, as they can burn the oil or cook it a bit. I guess they get really hot. So they should not be used unless its like -20 or more. Anybody else hear that?

i would use one as a last resort...
I'm going to install a 300W Alaska Pad as soon as I have some free time, but it's going to be on its own 172F thermodisk mechanical thermostat. I'm told high temp engine silicone is a great adhesive, and silicone grease is a great heat conductor.
I've always been really demanding as far as engine warmers are concerned. On my 3B I had a block heater, a rad hose heater and two battery blanket warmers, plus I started a project to build a 4500W electric boiler requiring 240V (working at 1250W on 120V)...
I attribute a lot of my old truck engine's longevity to the good treatment it's always had in winter.
Who hear wants to calculate some thermal dynamics.
500W pan heater warming up 10L of oil. Outside temp -15 Celsius.
Timer set for 4 hours.
To remove the heater is just 4 10mm bolts. Takes all of 5 minutes to remove.
Better to be to warm than not start.
Hasn't been that cold yet. Not that I complain about chinooks.
