Well, it finally did it. It gave up. Most of the time the blinkers worked just fine. Very occasionally I would engage one or the other and I'd hear a whirring instead of a clicking. No blinker would light up on the dash our outside the truck. Just a "whrrrrrrrrrrrt" until I disengaged the blinker.

Last night the dreaded whirr came back and the second time I engaged the non-blinking blinker I heard it wind down one of those little Godzilla toys that shoot sparks out of its mouth as it toddles across your desk. And now...nothing. Not a whirr, not a click, the damn blinker stock will pop down into place but nothing happens at all.

Before I start going piece by piece playing everyone's favorite game of "Let's Track Down an Electrical Issue" does anyone have any sound advice like, "I'm pretty sure it's the ____ and it costs $4. Here's the link."

Much appreciated. We're talking about a 1985 FJ60, BTW.

Check the turn signal relay under dash. Driver's side.

Any clue which one I'm aiming for?

In my 1985 HJ it is replaced with a universal box, where the two green and blue wires are plugged in:
Oke, found a difference :bang:

I'll be damned. It does. :bang:

On the backside, impossible to read when mounted unless you sit in the engine bay and cut a hole in the firewall. Would it kill Toyota to print that kinda thing on the TOP of these devices?

So, new flasher unit in there and hazard lights are going strong, but absolutely nothing happens with the blinker.

I'm going to have to pull the signal stalk aren't I?

That's what I would check next. Maybe dirty contacts.

Also.... If you want to (have to) replace the whole switch assembly, the one for the FJ62 fits and works and is available. The FJ60 switch has been discontinued.

Annnnd on the way to the park to exercise the dog and cry about a $200 part (found one on eBay for $100 though) it started working.

I'm thinking the dirty contact theory may have some merit.

Anyone know if these 3 prong male relays will work in the 83 fuse block?

a couple diff companies cross-ref the part number, but the green relay looks lower and blocky.
the electronic one is tempting at 12 bucks too, and will work LEDs also

original part #81980-22070

electronic version 12.00
More Information for TRIDON / NOVITA EP32

thermal version 26.00
More Information for STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS EFL25

and the Oreilly part number match 56.00
BWD FC561 - Flasher | O'Reilly Auto Parts

now if i could find the timer relay for the wipers it would be great...
