I can now join the club of a broken re-circulation door. Despite have put up a sign on the cabin air filter access stating: No, no, no, no, no, no, DO NOT Inspect, they did it anyway and broke it. It will move to the re-circulation, but will not move to the fresh air position. It just flops around. Now, something else to try and take care of before heading out on my trip on Friday.

I did take it by the dealer and they owned up to it and said they will take care of it when I return. Lot of good that will do me for the next few weeks.

You may want to reconsider letting the ham fisted ogre’s who broke it try and fix it. It’s a pretty big job pulling the dash apart to get to it with lots of plastic clips with potential to break leading to squeaks and rattles for the rest of its life.

There is a 3d printed brace available on Etsy the can be placed without dismantling the whole dash. The maker is on here but I can’t recall the name.

Not likely but make sure the cabin filter is secured into position. The door won't work correctly if it's not. Fingers crossed that's your issue.

We need a flashing banner that people must accept to view this section.. if you bring your car to the dealer: lock the glove box and keep the key blade with you!!

I wish it was that. The LC was serviced at the dealer two weeks ago and I went to clean the K&N reusable filter yesterday in preparation for my trip on Friday and that is when I discovered it was not working correctly. Despite the notice I have on it to not inspect or service, plus the K&N notice off to the side.

I wish there was an easy fix. As suggested before, I should have locked the damned thing and kept the key blade with me. Lesson learned.

Now I get to go on hundreds of miles of dusty dirt roads with a broken flap.

Here’s the link to the fix on Etsy. I haven’t used the fix yet but I’ve heard it works perfectly. Not sure it will arrive by the time you leave on your trip, though..

Thanks for the link. I was looking at the youtube video and it looks like it will do the trick. Earliest I could get it is the 18th and I am leaving on the 12th. I think I will pull it apart tomorrow to see what is going on. I find it odd that it works in one direction but not the other. Maybe there is something I can do temporarily.

Open the access hatch and look closely at the right door hinge where it wraps around the pin that moves it. The door can crack in a way that catches with torque in one direction, but not the other, sort of like a ratchet. Mine was this way and I’ve seen similar pictures of quite a few more.

Not trying to bear bad news, just saying you may be able to confirm without taking the dash apart.

I pulled apart the dash as per the youtube video from ONEngineering to see what was broken. This is what I found:

The broken part. Off the bottom of the door.

You can see the shaft and the bottom part of the door around the shaft is missing.

I decided to see if I could glue it back together with JB Plastic Weld.

I did make sure the shaft would rotate and was not inadvertently glued. I also made sure it was in the correct position! It moves freely. Looks messy but that is the best I can do being rather ham-fisted myself and little room to work. I used a long, narrow bladed screw driver to glob the plastic weld in there. Now, to let it set up for several hours before giving it a try.

A view of the whole shootin' match.

I hope this will get the message across. Still gonna lock it next time.

Finger crossed this will work until I can get the thingy from ONEngineering for a more permanent repair. I will order that upon my return.

Get the Etsy part. Works perfectly. Dealer will destroy your truck if you let them touch it.

Just tested the glue job: It works!

Hopefully, it will last until I can do the repair right. Fortunately, it is a low-stress part.

Sign needs to be high visibility yellow or orange with some skulls and stuff

A guillotine in there would be better.
