Has anyone ever stripped the chrome form their grill and such? Mine is flaking off big time, so wherever there is chrome, I am taking it all off and replacing it with matt black.

Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks
JT

I just roughed it up a little and painted it with some black spray paint with texture made for plastic. It seems to be hold up fine. Do a search and there is a lot of pictures and information on blacking out the chrome.

Can of Tremclad, holds up pretty good

do a search there are lots of threads about this. it looks really good. I want to do mine too.

The posts are very helpful - thanks!

Trucks in those pics look good. I hope mine turns out as well.

Scrub the grill with a green kitchen scratchy pad, water and Dawn dish washing liquid.. Let it dry then spray on 2 light/medium coats plastic primer (adhesion promoter). Let it dry completely, preferably overnight. Spray on 2 to 3 light/medium coats of your favorite black paint letting the paint dry between coats. If you want to get really anal then apply 2 or 3 light coats of clear satin enamel on top of the black.

Blacked mine out too, couple of coats clear coat if a must if you want it to last 70mph bug impacts.:steer: Did a little urban bling for the toyota piece. Just couldn't help my self. :grinpimp: Did the headlight trim too. Thinking about the side vents, but I have a pile of projects to do and also have to recover from installing the lift kit.
