Finally had some time to download and resize some of these.

If anyone want's to go to a spot where you won't see another human for several days this is it. Once you leave hwy 70 and start heading toward Point of Pines don't plan on seeing any traffic. IMO, well worth the price paid to the San Carlos Apache's.

#1, Hitching up the old Studebaker trailer.
#2, Our campsite, shade consists of Aligator juniper and Pinion pine.
#3, Tri-Tip dinner with baked seasoned taters, homemade pintos, (and a few Tecates to wash it down with).

#1, Looking down from camp. About a 800 foot drop to get to the river, (not something you want to do several times a day).
The rest are a few "smallies" we picked up.

Holy crap man that looks awesome I love the black river but I believe I've been fishing higher up than where you are. WOW nice fish man! DO a have a map of where that is exactly?

I know higher up (I believe they call it the pump station), you can drive right to the river, but it usually is loaded with more people and a pesky bear population. I'll shoot you a pm.

How on earth did you make it up there with your turd polished widow maker steering?

:grinpimp:

Looks great!

How on earth did you make it up there with your turd polished ...... steering?!

hey, turds steer particularly well after a good polishing :flipoff2:

Just did alot of this :steer::D

i haven't been out to black river in quite a few years,, thats a great little known place. looks like you guys ate well.

Food is always a priority. We almost wanted to have a turkey dinner, they were everywhere, in fact we had a gobbling alarm clock come through camp every morning.

Especially when you tighten up their tolerances

Great Fish!! Were you bait fishing or using lures? I remember catching lots of fish but few if any lunkers like you got! If I remember correctly(been 20 years or so since the last time), digging crawdads or using Mepps spinners were the best.

The Pump Station access is pretty similar to the place where you were at. The difference is that there are steps going to the bottom.

About 3-5 miles further upstream from the Pump Station is a 4wd ford across the river that if you made it, you could eventually end up at the town of White River on the Fort Apache Reservation. The San Carlos Map shows it as White's Crossing. Seems to me the name I heard had something with "Diamond" in the name. Sorry, been too long.........

Don't feel bad, we go about once every 8 years, (I hope that is going to change). The fish must get some pressure because we couldn't get them to take any artificials, so we started using crayfish and hellgramites. I also found they like their "dads" with the front pinchers pulled off.

As for hellgramites, nasty little b***ard's, after getting bit, I used nail clippers to snip the chompers off. Creepy even without their ammo.

Great pics!

I gotta admit it was the Tri-Tip dinner with baked seasoned taters, homemade pintos, (and a few Tecates to wash it down with), that got my attention.
