Has anyone ever tracked down a paint code that matches the factory black used on the wheel flares? I’d like to touch mine up.

What year/model are your working on? Example: RHD Australian Spec 1995 HDJ80R-GNPEXQ or ??
What are the color code(s) from the VIN plate?
Are the flares still in their original paint or have they been repainted?

If you want you could post a photo of the VIN plate but probably better to obscure the VIN number for privacy/security.

1994 FZJ80R
Model: FZJ80R-GNPNKQ
Colour/Trim (C/TR): 181 / FA10
Axle/Trans: A11 A442F

I dont believe the paint code for the flares are on the VIN.

They are the original painted finish from factory and have never been re-painted.

I suspect nobody has done this before, so I will see if my friend who owns an automotive paint business has a spectrophotometer and can match it for me. I will share the results once obtained.

That was going to be the next suggestion, any body shop or autobody supply store that mixes paint should have the device.

FWIW a guess is that it's Toyota 202 (black) which is a non-metallic Black. If it had a factory clear coat that would make it appear more glossy.

FWIW, the USDM flares were body–matched paint colors. As were the welting, which used to be available in body colors.

In my mind I can remember there being a colour chart that showed the paint codes for front & rear bumpers along with end caps. I am pretty sure it also had the flares as well. I thought I had a copy but I can't find it any more.

That's the one but nothing about the flares.

I could be wrong (it's happened before), but I seem to remember the front bumper (AKA the front bumper bar) being a different (OEM) color/shade than the extensions, because it was painted and the extensions had the color molded in. The extensions, at least the front extensions, were also textured from the mold, to distinguish them from aftermarket copies (or so I was told). and the paint codes TSB was for repair only. My source is a body shop manager that I've used and trusted for years. This is consistent with the new bar and front extensions I ordered a couple of years back for my DD.

The only contrasting color flares I've ever seen were on non–USDM trucks. Not picking, just my 2¢.

I recently painted a new flare with a can of black color match that I bought on Amazon. I think it is a great match.
Drive side door flare is the one I painted.
Also did 2k clear on top.

someone else mentioned the 202 Toyota paint code as well. Looks pretty close, but hard to tell in photos. Yours appears a bit lighter, but could be background lighting too.
