I am in and out of Home Depots all day
and came across the
Black & Decker 12 Volt Thermo-Electric Cooler/Freezer/Warmer for 49.95.

I believe its a special buy for fathers day.

Says it will hold 12 12oz cans.

Product Features

  • Separate freezer compartment with ice tray
  • Plugs directly into vehicle's 12 volt DC oultet or any 12 volt power supply
  • Zippered side storage and accessory pouch
  • 12 volt DC power adapter included
  • Dual can/cup hoder

Might be time to upgrade the 60 console, seems similar in size.
Thoughts?

Sorry no pics(no silver star)
I googled it and Amazon has a pretty good description but no dimensions.
Weight is 12 pounds.

From seeing one in the store its higher and shorter
than the factory console, but width is similar.

Personally, I woundn't bother. Those thermo-electric coolers just don't do what they promise, I acually gave away a ThermaKool unit. And sitting on the floor, I would think they would spend all their energy just dealing with the heat that comes up thru the floor.

The other thing to keep in mind with them is they are VERY slow to cool down. You'd have to keep it running 24/7 for it to maintain any cooling. That's what we had to do when I had mine, it was a huge pain on camping trips and cross-country travel.

Well, if 40-50 deg max drop is all I could expect, it wouldn't do much good here in the desert. Especially when down in Havasu where it hits 120+

Um, yeah, but if you use some ice in there, the cooling unit gives the ice longer life. My experience with a similar cooler is that they make a great cooler, ice lasts for several days in AL summer temps, but don't expect it to be a fridge on its own without ice.

Sounds like a good deal to me, I gotta go have a look at those.

I have one of the black & Decker 12v coolers. It seems to work pretty well. I just put it behind my consol, so I can reach it while driving. I found that when I used my stock lighter it seemed to be power starved. I checked the outlet and found only ten volts. So I put in a aux lighter that is fused to the battery. I works very well and the low voltage switch in it works great. Just my thoughts.
