Black 40's

There is a thread in the 60's section about black 60 series... which makes me wonder about painting my 40 black when all the body work is done... could be a while, though. Anyway, was black a stock colour in any year? If not, has anyone gone black... dull... shiny, whatever? Can you guys post pics?

This is a BJ41 from Japan it was factory black code 202 this is the only country I am aware of that offered black as factory.
This is the only pic I have of it on file there is a couple in my Mud album

In my opinion the only way black looks good on an FJ4X is with the top off. With a hardtop with a white roof or black roof black is just not a good color to me.

I agree ...

here is my fj40-72 before work. i just did not like the black, which is PO added, most likely rattle can flat.

so there ya go. Paint to taste.

Black maybe on a Chev or ford in the 70,s but on a 40 just doesnt seem right

Tucker (Tucker74 IIRC) owns a black '76 40, which I think is the stock color. He was ROTW several years ago. Here ya go-

Save the black for domestic trucks and FJC's but I don't like it on a 40 series but what ever makes you happy, you're the one who's driving it so do as you like.

Actually black does not look all that bad on a Cruiser with a white roof...I had thought the same as many of you guys but when I got mine and buffed her up it looked really good the JDMs had a gold and off red decal stripe that ran from the hood back to the window panel and Landcruiser decal the same color on the panel.
With a soft top it also looks good my other one had the black denim soft top shown in the pic above and looked good.
If it does not have 202 on the color code plate it wasn't factory.

I had a 1970 black fj40 back in 1982 - 83. I am pretty sure it was the original color but would not bet on it. It had lots of thin white pin stripes on the hood and fenders. Real sharp looking I though. I am going over to another house this weekend and I hope to find a picture of it.
