They are supposed to be kept verticle but I think if you ive them a good shake reguarly they should be ok.
So maybe on the transmission hump,or on the spare wheel carrier.
Bullbar might be useful.

Fire is less of a problem with diesels unless its an electrical fault.

I had a fire in my 73 series from bad wiring from the PO.
It was the wing nuts on the battery that saved my ass. If I had to look for a wrench I might have lost it
Both my cruisers have quick disconnect on the battery leads now

I keep mine attached to the driver's seat rail, right next to the door, it fits perfectly.

I want to make a custom bracket to mount another one right in front of the seat and behind the passenger's feet, using the seat rail bolts as mounting points.

I've seen them on transmission humps a few times for BJ74s.
& they are required for TLCA events, so it's good to have one always.

Hey golden boy,
had my 2.5kg dry powder firey velcrowed to my seat adjuster down the drivers side, coming up behind a Pajero on a crest in the burbs. It had what looked like the sun setting under it , thourght wait a miniute, as they pulled over and started pilling out I already had the fire extinguisher on my lap. Pulled up 20 mteres behind, with me hazards on walked up and got to play fireman for five miniutes. $100 buks worth of powder on a Pajero, arh well. So beside the seat works well.

Mine's mounted to the vehicle in behind the passenger seat. I riveted a piece of flat aluminum bar going from the top of the side window to the bottom of the window. This covers the glass a little but its far enough back that people don't hit the extinguisher when they get in the back seat and I can also easily reach it from the driver's seat by reaching across the vehicle. Best part was that I was able to get a bigger extinguisher as it didn't interfere with anything.

Cheers,
John

you want is in a spot you can grab quickly... i would go with a small one on the tranny hump infront of the shifters.
a larger one in the back corner.
