Hi
i just found a partial BJ71 and i'm looking for info on its configuration via its VIN.

I can't find the web site where cruiser VINs were explained and where i could find its origin, tranny and drive train configuration... I remember doing this for my 42 some years ago.. But cant seem to find the website anymore.. Any idea ?
Its vin starts with.. JT3BJ71VH4.....

So possibly a 3b or 13bt.. But the motor isnt there anyway
I know it was used in a mine so its frame is really clean for a 1987
(anyone looking for one?)

I'm not looking for rebulding it.. But i would really like to know what the diffs are

Thanks!

JM

If you can get the axle code [off the same tag I think] it will tell you all you need to know.

My BJ74 has a code of K085 = 9.5" centre, 4.11 ratio, LSD.

A LSD would be so awsome !

The LSD is nothing to write home about,it has just enough torque to stop the wheel from slowing the vehicle down over boggy ground.
Also the LSD seems to be mainly on australian models. If Cult45 has one, maybe the JDMs got them in the later models.

Decoding of plates is done fairly well here
TLC FAQ - 14.0 Decoding your ID plates

Of course.. The TLC FAQ !
I forgot about The faq.. About 6 -8 years ago i had it bookmarked and refered to it pretty often.
Thats the site i was looking for !

Thanks guys!

I will post my findings in detail once i get the id plate

--- thanks for the input on the LSD i really though it was as good as an automatic locker.. Like the aussie locker wich is not the same at all mechanically (my reference goes back 6-7 years ago, so sorry if i'm out of date).

I was out of a garage or space to work on my projects.. Had it all stored for 6 years.. My 42 hasnt been worked on since but.. Since it's a Toyota.. It holded up ;)

Great to be back !

Thanks again!

Finally, the BJ70 is a LV-MNK model.
Its 202FA11KO52H55F

So diffs are open and 3.70

I was suprised of the size of the diff flanges.. Big and round.

Here's a couple of pictures..
The frame is really nice
