Even though the poor old piggy has been neglected I haven't been sitting on my rear.....been working on the BJ70. Bought a complete Old Man Emu medium (3-4 inch lift) suspension system from IronPig (great price by the way) and installed it a few weeks ago. Lifted the old girl just about 4". Last week I bought a set of 16" Cragar wheels from Summit (4" backspacing) and got a set of Goodyear 235/85-16 MTR's mounted. They're similar in stance to a 33 x 9.50 but since they're 16" they have less vulnerable a sidewall as the 33's on 15 inch wheels. Even with 4" backspacing the 16" rims cleared the tie rods no sweat. She rides and handles quite well now. She now sits about 6" higher than stock with 235 tires.

Ialso installed some new speakers and a replacement throttle cable. Been trouble shooting the non-functional EDIC and found it had a bad motor. Bought a used replacement (new is pricey) and the EDIC works but the relay that controls it is AFU. Hmmmm, I'm learning about diesels. It does run quite well with the manual throttle positioning (choke) cable so for now that is somewhat of a non-issue.

Next up are new bumpers. The stock rear bumper is ugly and will be the first to be replaced. I'm planning to make my own this time around so we'll see what happens. Main material will be 2"x6" rectangular tubing (like on the pig). She's road ready and pretty well debugged now and I'm just racking up kilometers on the odometer. I've put 3000KM on her (1800 miles appx) and fuel mileage is exactly 25MPG. Not bad, eh? It's just about what Tom Humphries and Todd Oldenburg told me she'd get. I'm truly happy with the new cruiser and she attracts a lot of attention wherever I drive her. Gary S

I was wondering how that 70 was doing Gary. Glad to hear you're getting to work on it and drive it. I hope to be able to come up and take a look at her. Maybe pick up that rear hatch if you even still have it that is. And it's good to know someone local has the kowledge to import one of these bad boys.

Nice 70. She looks like she will give you great service. Being an '85, she has a 12 volt system which will allow you more options for lights/radios/winches than an '86 or an '87. Congratulations on finding her.

Rims

I had a limited selection of 16 x 7 inch rims, and the white ones I've bought new in recent years rust fairly quickly. I like the chrome rims, they're dirty now and don't shine quite so brightly. Gary S

That's a sweet truck! Nice!

Awesome 70 Gary, keep me in mind if you ever get bored of this one. You've been known to sell a Cruiser or two ;)
