I've already made two mistakes, but I'll keep trying until I figure this stuff out. I just purchased a BJ70 with 400,000k on it. The springs are weak, should I re-arc them or replace them. What kind/type of shocks should I get? I would like to put a posi. or a locker in the rear end-any suggestions? Finally I would like to put 33" under it; is there a small lift kit (2-4") on the market? Thanks for the help. Dougundefined

First thing you may want to do is ask it in the right forum, like the Intl forum and not the TLCA forum. :D You'd likely get much better results. :D

ARB OME springs will get you 2.5" lift, and let you run 33's, no problem. I think belton makes stuff for this truck as well, same amount of lift. Aussielocker or arb airlocker for the rear...

think you should just send your "mistake" here. ill gladly wheel it.

wheres the pics?

yeh, other forum might help responses. Id go with new springs over rearced from what ive heard.

hey, i've got a BJ73. to fit my 33" i fitted a dobinson spring set, meant to be 2" lift over normal but because orig springs so sagged it lifted 4". excellent ride so far, going for wheel with mates on weekend, hopefully all works off road too.

with the shorty don't get to stiff springs otherwise the ride will be CRAP

Get the belton spring kit. I have one on my 60 series and it's absolutely fantastic. the ride is smooth but wheels good too. much cheaper than an OME setup and of the same quality. It seems like most of the stateside kits are not cracked up to what they claim.

The belton kit is widely used in Aus and made by a very reputable spring maker in Malaysia.

my .02.

oh, g&s sells the kit and can send stateside no problem...

Thanks for the help, but I'm looking to "Parts For Trucks" they claim they have the original springs for 115.00 Can/corner. God only knows what I'l get. They are made in the US. Can't find the info know, but I will post it.

ARB definitely make a 2" kit for the BJ/LJ 70 with coils & shocks (Old Man Emu Nitrocharger).
I found the lift to be 2" in the rear, but the front only came up 1.5".

The Belton Kit is reaaly a good value for the money. I have it on my 85 BJ70, and am very happy. 2" lift all the way around.

I am for Belton too, have them on my 60, have had them for almost 2.5 years. Very nice springs and quite reasonable, they come with everything as well, greasable shackles polyurethane bushings, shocks, steering stabilizer, u bolts.
Don't count on being able to use old pins, u bolts or bushings.

Thanks for the help, as I stated I was planning on buying new springs through "Parts for Trucks"(local company) but found out their supplier was out of stock and would not be getting them again until next April. That sucked, my buddy who works there said to re-arc. so I did-9 new leafs, rebound clips, spacers and re-arcing all for under 100.00 Great job, the truck is back up were it belongs. BUT the front end still bottoms out on any bump.
Can anyone tell me who sells Belton or OME in Canada?

In Alberta the Belton dealers I know of are (in no particular order);
Modern Motors
Crushers Rule (Wayne Smith)
4 Wheel Auto in Edmonton.

HTH,
Craig.

I wonder how much the new Dakar Kit from OME is... I'm very pleased with the standard OME but it was pricey and a tough pill to swallow.

I havn't seen any pricing on the Dakar 70 series kit yet... I have the 40, 45, 60 stuff but I'm not sure they are making it for the 70. I will check.

BTW, I have sold 4 70 series OME setups in the past couple years... all of them love em' (at least I hope you do Wes :D)

PS... I wish I had a 70 series.

Oh.. don't get me wrong I totally love the ride (100%) :D It's not like there are a ton of options like a 4x or 6x cruiser. Plus I plan to keep it for a long time so I didn't mind the hit + other goodies.

I did notice behind the front cover of the latest TT the EMU DAKAR ad it said suited vehicles: 40,45,60,75,78,79 series :)

I emailed ARB USA for a catalogue a couple of weeks ago and they sent me an email with a link to Dakar kits for the 70 series...unfortunately I've already deleted the email. So yes, they have them for the 70 series. Cheers.

BJ70/85:

I am from Halifax. I recc. you drop into Atlantic Foreign Auto Repair (AFAR) on the corner of Isville/Almon. John is the resident Cruiser guru ... and it is also our makeshift club house... hehehe. He supplies OME kits (amongst others) and has very reasonable prices. If you have any trouble at all, he can certainly fix it.

Also, we have a Cruiser Club if you are interested. It is still young and not too organized with respect to meetings etc. but we do hit the trails.

Did you buy John Montegue's 70?
