What is a plastic top ? The one shown above on the BJ44 is steel as is the one on my BJ46 both factory options.

If you are saying the 43 you have was offered with a factory steel hard top then can you post some pictures of the inner rear lip where the rear doors go ? The factory hard top was only offered with Ambulance door in any market from what I have seen and thus if the 43 was offered with a factory hard top I would expect to see the return lip.

my 46 has the return my 43 does not

Always learning, happy for education if this is not the case, I know for a fact I was not buying a 43 in the late 70's and have never bought anything direct so who knows what my junk has been through

Few ways to prove the statement regarding the mystic OEM „plastic top“ – Original Catalogues; original broschures; original owners manual or original cars. Up to now there is no single prove about original plastic top for BJ43 in Europe.
The only plastic top you can see (apart from custom hardcore) in Benilux for BJ43 is definitely non OEM

It's more than possible that sometime after leaving the factory, items were added/changed to suit a previous owner. An interesting series of holes in the face of the front bumper. That rocker seam might be part of the attachment of a replacement cowl/firewall.

Yes, for historical investigation, a VIN plate might be instructive along with a photo of the stamped frame serial number.

Unless someone is concerned about absolute originality, this one is no more modified than many other Land Cruisers out there. If the seller however is representing this as a 100% original Toyota factory creation, valid documentation and detailed examination would be needed for authentication.

I find the rocker very interesting. Would expect to see one seam or the other not both. Questions how they did this. The dash insert appears to be the original one from a 82 RHD. As more changes I would pull the 2B and install a 2FE and five speed. Curious how those mirrors work. With a 2B you need good mirror keep track who going to pass you next.

The fender mounted mirrors are actually very good, work better than door mounted.

I cannot prove it that the the plastic hardtop for the 43 was made by Toyota but you could definitive get one in Europe.
Was on the dealers list ( price & pictures ) as I wrote.

Did Toyota offer an electric winch for the J4´s in Europe 1979 or only the mechanical winch ?

Ha ha and the number plate is on bumper`s right side...
...good to know

... a lot place 4 useful things above;)

Were the later TEQ electric winches ever installed at the factory? I know the Warns were a dealer offered option we a deal between Toyota and Warm. Here in the US by 79 the dealer offered Warn was the only option. No mechanical winches were offered or TEQ electric winches. But it fits with everything else never offered in the US including a mid wheel base 4X series. Toyota used the Land Cruiser to get a foothold in the US market but the real intent was to get into the small car market. In 79 when they introduced the mini truck and later the 4Runner that killed the SWB LC in the US. Four cylinder lightweight truck got much better gas mileage than the heavy FJ40 with it's cast iron old six cylinder.

It was very popular for Japanese market but quite seldom for Europe

By the time Toyota started making their own electric winch I had secured a PTO winch for my 68 FJ40 which was the only LC I had at the time. While not offered here I imagine could have order back then but the cost would have been prohibited compared to the Warn which I'm guessing was already higher prices then if bought elsewhere. I'm happy to install a PTO winch with a five speed and split transfer rather trying to source a TEQ electric winch from Japan.
