I know this very well... ''Before I go to bed tonight '' pre-sleep thoughts of , lists job tasks and in what order, who and where to go - get then make a list and revise it.
Your doing a very meticulous job ! I think I'd have to be retired to pull that off !
Nice work !

Thank you, I have the benefit of working a 7on-7off rotation so I have a lot of time to dedicate to the cruiser. Only issue is coming up with the cash fast enough to keep plodding along.

Hi Mr crescent wrench.
You are right on there.
For me I'm semi retired so I have the time to play Toyota. But and a big But is the forty series is a bottom less pit for spending money.
I did a budget before I started but that has gone out the door. Little things like having the fuel tank cleaned and sealed $240.00 that I had no idea of before I started the restro.
Re your zinc coating .
I looked into this and had my chassis and diffs grit blasted, zinc coated then etch primed and finished off with a two pac urethane .
A company here in Brisbane makes bridges and large metal constructions . Well they told me that this was the best treatment they could offer for my chassis with a life expectancy of 20 years. That will see me out.
The cost for that service here in Australia was $2600.00 . The result very happy.
Keep up the good work and keep the photos flowing.
Cheers.

So today I applied two coats of por15 over the Zinga zinc coat and installed the front diff when it was dry to the touch. I installed the recommended 2 1/2 degree shims up front and bolted everything up. Then I pre installed the shocks but didn't bolt them, I need to get new fasteners and washers. Also I will pick up the steering tie rods ends for next weeks project. Once that's done I will move on to redo the rear brakes and get the ebrakes working, and maybe still have enough time to open up and inspect the 5spd. and transfer case. Pretty ambitious eh!

Not much to report actually, things have been going very slowly of late due to the fact its summer and I have my plate full with a ton of other projects at the moment. I did do some research on replacement tubs and stumbled across a company in France called "Teseven" they build full tubs including cowls out of aluminum and stainless steel. I would be very interested in the stainless steel tubs first and foremost as well as the aluminum, and the finished product looks amazing actually. I copied some pictures for "show and tell" here on mud.

As for my BJ42 I was struggling with the Gun Metal Grey body colour, I looked at so many paint cards my head was starting to spin, then one day I am talking to this guy at the bike shop who restores old mustangs as a hobby and he convinces me that it should stay blue for overall value and nostalgia. So I am walking outside and I'm thinking about the Nordic Blue which reminds me of a Chevron Oil bucket kind of blue, so as I walk up to my '05 Cummins which I just waxed that morning it hits me like a ball peen hammer; I bought that truck because I really love that blue so I check the paint code number and guess what... are you ready? the paint code is BJ, who would have thunk that eh? So from then on I am at piece with the colour, now I just need to come up with 4000Euro plus shipping give or take and money for paint. This is going to take longer than I thought. I wonder if anyone is importing the Teseven tubs into Canada or the U.S.? Has any one here on mud seen one up close? Check out the pics of the stainless, aluminum tubs and even one out of brass aluminum. Excellent detail

Those are some sweet bodies. I guess with as high quality of a build you have so far tseven seems the way to go. Stainless would be epic

Thank you for the kind words white stripe. I'm trying hard to do this right but it's hard to budget for one of these rebuilds. You just never know what you are in for until you start.

For what it's worth...what ever you pay for a stainless cruiser today will be worth more in the future $$$$ and the idea of '' Rust'' will be a mere memory !
It will have a ground that a fibre glass body will not
You can either etch prime the stainless to accommodate your finish paint or just grab a can of spray bomb and paint it yourself without etching it.
The spray bomb will last a few years, mine is about 4 years on #304 stainless. that way if your not sure of a colour you can test it out.
Removing the paint should be easy with steel wool or with something else like a plastic knife/ scraper.
Cheers

Thanks Alberta Mac I am still a year away from needing a tub anyway and I'm thinking that by that time the manufacturer will be ready to export. My hold up is not time but rather financial capital to spend on this restoration. I am pushing hard but have backed off now just to catch up a little. It's way more interesting to work in the garage during the winter rather than when it's nice out. Always happy to hear your feed back

I just thought I would pop in here to say hello, I have been working like crazy these last few months trying to make extra cash before winter comes and I can again find time to work on the BJ. I haven't even had time to drop by the body shop to see how they have made out with the sheet metal I left with them a couple of months ago. I will keep everything in epoxy primer for now because i don't have adequate storage and it will for sure get scratched I'm my garage.

I'm working on a 137' tug right now with EMD 645-E4 diesels, really nice engines with lots of power. I'll upload a couple of pics for the diesel buffs on mud. I hope to make good progress soon and will be back posting by October or so. I hope everyone has had a great summer as well.
Cheers

Ha ha , a slight hick up with the post button? Yes you would have to beef up the front end and raise the seat about 10' so you could see over top of it and hope it doesn't drag the oil pan, and fuel consumption could be a bit of an issue at 60 gallons an hour , but the torque would be awesome. Lol

Well its good to be settling down and getting back to work on the 42. It's been a fairly busy summer and now that my teenage son is driving I have been under the hood of his car much more than I would like to be. Yesterday I pulled the rear diff apart and and I was amazed at how pristine it looked, really it was like a brand new gear set including the bearings. Just did a quick examination of the bearings and replaced the axle seals then put her back together.
