Yes, Matti .You're only as young as you feel and I still feel fine. The challenge of restoring the bj42 was regarded with derision by my family but I could never refuse a challenge.
Having removed the offending metal and reassembled all the bits, not surprisingly she started up and ran fine. I now thought it was time to install a Wilson switch to get rid of my unreliable pre heat timer unit. I chose to try and simulate the orignal relay sequence using the same type of glow plugs and the 2 relays of the superglow version. I fitted a 2 way momentary switch, switching first 24v to relay 1, then after 5 secs. Switching 24v to relay 2. I believed this would put 24v on the glow plugs for 5 secs. then 14v for the afterglow period. I thought the 24v from relay 2 was dropped to 14v through a resistance. Either I was wrong or the resistance was shorted out. For whatever reason, after a couple of days my glow plugs failed. Once again a small piece of glow plug had disappeared . Now guess what? I had to do it all again. Head off and reassemble. The only trouble this time was a rocker arm stud sheared off.
