G'day,
I have recently managed to snap a speedometer cable. I though it wasn't going to be to much of a hassle to replace, but now im not sure. I managed to find a cable on eBay for around $20, the cable seems to be fine and totally intact. but whenever I try to connect it, the cable will manage about one revolution before stopping. after fiddling around for a while I noticed that the pin from the cable which slots into the socket only has one locking point. where as the socket itself has 2. so at the moment I think I have just managed to grab the wrong part.
I was just wondering if this seems the most likely case or if anyone else has had to deal with this?
cheers
Damian.

I think your problem lies elsewhere. Did you compare the cables side by side? It seems more likely the new cable is too short to remain engaged with the drive gear.

Thanks.
Stupidly I left the cable on the bench and my brother threw it out... iv been in contact with the seller and I reckon you are probably right.. cheers for the help

the other end is still attached to the back of the speedometer? you can attach a drill to the transfer end and see if it turns the speedometer. run drill in reverse to go forward on the speedometer. that way you know the other end is good.

Cheers 3 puppies. I have already done that and the cable itself is fine. I checked the length and it is 2450 mm long which is standard for the rh bj42.
I'm beginning to think that it is the gear in the transfer case. Everything I read is point in to that anyone ever come across problems with it before?
